Igon’s questline is one of the longest side missions in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and by the end of it, you will gain access to two Dragon forms along with some hidden rewards. The questline is linked to Bayle and the Jagged Peaks, and there are a lot of steps that go into completing it.
Additionally, there are two ways you can go about completing the questline. But the rewards that they give by the end are completely different from each other.
Here is a guide on how you will be able to complete Igon’s questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and get the Dragon forms.
How to start Igon’s quest in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
To start Igon’s questline, the first thing you will need to do is to make your way to the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace which is located to the southeast of Castle Front Site of Grace. Once you reach Pillar Path you will see Igon there moaning in pain.
Talk to him and he will tell you about Bayle and he is on a journey to take down the dragon. Exhaust all of his dialogues and then you will have successfully started Igon’s questlin.
How to complete Igon’s questline and unlock both Dragon Forms
Here are a few steps that you will need to complete to round out Igon’s quest in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:
1) Head to the Dragon’s Pit dungeon
From the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace head directly south to go to the Dragon’s Pit dungeon. You will be forced to dismount along the way as there is an invasion where you will be attacked by Ancient Dragon Man.
He is not too difficult an encounter, so take him down and then continue onwards to reach Dragon’s Pit. Unlock the Site of Grace there and start to clear out the dungeon. You can choose to ignore the enemies as well, but it’s not something that we advise.
Once you have made it further in you will find two paths one going up into a Magma Wyrm and the other leading to an altar room with a giant gaping hole in the middle.
You can beat the Magma Wyrm for a Dragon Heart or just ignore it and head to the altar room. Jump down the hole, and you will reach the boss of the dungeon which is the actual form of the Ancient Dragon Man.
He will be much more challenging than his invasion form, so use a summon to make things easier. Once you beat him, you will find a door to the back of the room, open it, and unlock the Dragon Pit Terminus Site of Grace.
2) Head to the Altar of the Grand Dragon Communion and talk to the Priestess
From the Dragon Pit Terminus make your way out of the tunnel to exit the dungeon. You will find yourself in an open area where you will be able to call Torrent.
Keep heading forward and jump down some cliffs till you reach a large area where there are bodies of multiple dead dragons around, however, in the middle, there is a drake that is actually asleep.
From here you will see three paths, one behind the sleeping drake, one to its right, and another to its left. Take the path to the right, and keep heading through it past some goats to find an altar with a giant dead dragon curling around it.
This is the Altar of the Grand Dragon Communion, and in front of it, you will find the Dragon Priestess. Unlock the Site of Grace there and start talking to the Priestess.
Run through her dialogs and you will finally get an option to “Devouur Draconic Essence”. If you select it, you will get the Ancient Dragon’s Blessing consumable which will boost your damage negation at the cost of some FP.
3) Find and talk to Igon
After speaking to the Priestess head back to the Dragon Pit Terminus Site of Grace and make your way to the sleeping drake once more. This time take the path to the left, and you will eventually reach a route that curls around a mountain.
Follow it (make sure to not fall off), and you will eventually reach a Spiritspring. Use Torrent to jump up it and reach the mountain infront. There will be a bridge to the right, so make your way across it to unlock the Foot of the Jagged Peaks Site of Grace.
From here head southeast and you will find another large area where two dragons are fighting each other. You can either choose to tackle them together or wait till one defeats the other making the encounter significantly easier.
Once both the dragons are dead, you will receive a Dragon Heart as well as some Dragonscale Flesh.
You will then notice Igon lying infront moaning in pain. Go over to him and you will receive his finger which will let you summon him against Bayle.
4) Reach the Jagged Peak Mountainside Site of Grace
From where you talk to Igon continue onwards and you will reach a little cave with a Spiritspring at the end. Use Torrent to reach up and you will find another spring. Take that and continue east to a cave some boulders will start rolling towards you.
Dodge them and continue on in till you reach a boss encounter. The boss is Ancient Dragon Senessax who is completely optional to Igon’s questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
So you can chose to take them down, or just run past it to spot a steep climb to the left. Once you come out of the opening at the top you will be able to unlock the Jagged Peak Mountainside Site of Grace.
5) Obtain the Rock Heart
There are two ways to go about obtaining the Rock Heart in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:
A) From a Ghost after acquiring a painting
This is the easier way to obtain the Rock Heart. You will first need to make your way to Shadow Keep’s Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace.
From there turn west and keep heading through multiple doorways till you come across a flight of stairs to the right. You can choose to take down all the enemies or run past them.
Keep going up the stairs till you reach a large banquet hall. Then take the door at the back to reach an area where there are a lot of burning boats.
Keep going down the path until you eventually reach a ladder to the left which will take you to the bottom of a waterfall. There is another ladder going down behind the waterfall, take it to find and obtain the “Domain of Dragons” painting.
Once you have it, head back to the Jagged Peak Mountainside Site of Grace head west, and head up the mountain till you reach a Spiritspring. From here head southwest till you reach a sort of pillar jutting out.
If you keep going up along the pillar you will reach the Bayle boss encounter, however, if you jump down and keep going downwards then you will find a ghost in a chair. Interact with it, and you will exchange the painting for a Rock Heart.
B) Defeat Bayle the Dread
The alternate way of getting the heart which will unlock the second dragon form is to kill Bayle. From the platform where you jumpd down after the Spiritspring keep heading upwards along the path to the left.
You will come across another Spiritspring which will take you to a land with a bunch of dead dragons around. Keep heading in and you will find a final spring boosting you up to the boss area.
Bayle is one of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. You can make the fight easier by interacting with the Golden Summon sign in the boss arena to call Igon.
Igon will help divert the boss’ attention giving you enough room to deal damage to him without worrying about Bayle’s hard-hitting combos.
Once you take him out you will get the Heart of Bayle. It’s sort of like a Remembrance but instead of taking it to Enia, you use it at the Altar of the Grand Dragon Communion to exchange it for either Bayle’s Flame Lightning or Bayle’s Tyranny.
6) Pick up the Priestess Heart
Once you have defeated Bayle come back to the Dragon Priestess and exhaust all of her dialogs. You will then receive the Priestess Heart and the Flowerstone Gavel weapon for completing the mission.
If you have not talked to the Priestess before killing Bayle, then if you make your way back to the Altar of the Grand Dragon Communion you will find the Priestess Heart and the Flowerstone Gavel as a shiny drop where she would be standing.
7) Go back to Igon to round out his questline and get his Greatbow
To round out Igon’s questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you will need to go back to where you found him after beating the two drakes who were attacking each other. However, the NPC will be dead this time around, and you will be able to loot his corpse to get his Bell Bearing, his armor set, as well as Igon’s Greatbow.
How to become a Dragon in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
To become a Dragon you will need to use the hearts that you have received. However, do keep in mind that you will not be able to transform if you have any armor on. You will need to unequip everything that you are wearing and use the Priestess Heart to become a female dragon or the Rock Heart to become a male dragon.
While you won’t be able to wear any armor when transformed, you will, however, get a 50% boost to resistances to all damage types. Additionally, each form adds a unique buff:
- Priestess Dragon: Boosts Dragon Cult Incantation.
- Rock Dragon: Boost Dragon Communion Incantation.
Igon’s questline alternate ending in Shadow of the Erdtree: Dragon Bolt of Florissax Incantation and the Ancient Dragon Florissax Spirit Ash
The alternate method of completing the questline will let you get your hands on the Dragon Bolt of Florissax Incantation and the Ancient Dragon Florissax Spirit Ash summon.
To get these items you will need to venture a fair bit into Thiollier and St. Trina’s questline till you obtain the Black Syrup from Moore. Give the syrup to Thiollier and you will get the Thiollier Concoction.
You will need to use this concoction to put the Dragon Priestess to sleep by interacting with her at night time. Once she is asleep, wait for two whole days, beat the two drakes that are fighting infront of Igon, and then come back to her.
Speak to her, and exhaust all of her dialogs to get the Incantation and the Priestess, who is the Ancient Dragon Florissax as a Spirit Ash Summon.
Note: You will not be able to get the hearts to transform into a Dragon as well as the Incantation and the Summon in one playthrough. Picking either route will lock you into one set of rewards. If you will need to invest in an additional playthrough of FromSoftware’s latest DLC to have both.
