Sir Ansbach is one of the many NPC you will meet, who will give you a quest in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. These side missions usually take several steps to complete, but it’s advised that you round out these quests if you wish to learn more about the Land of Shadow and what is actually going on with Miquella.
These quests also provide great rewards that you will be able to acquire. Upon completing the side quest you will be able to obtain Ansbach’s Longbow as well as Leda’s Rune which is worth around 40,000 Runes.

How to start Sir Ansbach’s questline in Shadow of the Erdtree
To start Ansbach’s questline you will first need to find the NPC. He is pretty hard to miss though, and you will encounter him outside of Belurat standing by a giant Miquella Cross.
Belurat is the first major dungeon in the Land of Shadow so just head there to meet him. Sir Ansbach was formally Mohg’s servant, so talk to him to learn more about him and his research into Miquella’s Cross. He will then ask you to visit him every time you unlock a secret.
Ansbach’s questline is pretty much tied into Hornsent’s side mission. When you talk to Hornsent, the NPC will give you a map that reveals the location of some hidden Miquella Crosses.
When you find the you will need to come back to Ansbach and report to him. This will lead to more dialogs and you will get to learn more about the Land of Shadow.
How to complete Sir Ansbach’s questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Once you have the side quest going, here are a few things you will need to do to round it out:
1) Send Ansbach to Shadow Keep
Once you make your way to the Shadow Keep, the game will show you a notification that the great rune has broken. Once you get the message, head back to Ansbach and then talk to him.
Exhaust his dialog and the rest at the Grace to make him disappear. You will meet the NPC again in Shadow Keep after you make your way to the Specimen Storehouse on the first floor.
From the Storehouse reach the First Floor Site of Grace which is right past the great beast. Then make your way up the stairs, and go past the bookshelf on the right.
You will find Ansbach’s research area where the NPC will be sitting reading something. Exhaust his dialogs again and then look for the Secret Rite Scroll.
2) Obtain the Secret Rite Scroll
The next part of the Sir Ansbach questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will be to find the Secret Rite Scroll. To get it, you will need to make your way to the Storehouse, Fourth Floor Site of Grace.
From there head left and follow up the path that goes past a set of burning boats. Then take the stairs up as you keep moving till you find a flight of sets on the left that leads down.
Take the stairs and beat all the enemies on the landing as you land. You will then find a small library in a room nearby, so head through the doorway and reach the edge.
You will find a purple shiny on a table, interact with it ti pick up the Secret Rite Scroll.
Once you have it, head back to Sir Ansbach and give him the scroll. You will then learn that Miquella has stolen Mohg’s body and is planning something with it.
This is quite ironic from the lore perspective as Mohg was the one who initially stole Miquella’s cocoon from the Haligtree.
3) Deliver Ansbach’s letter to Redmane Freyja
For the next part of the quest, you will need to talk to Freyja at the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain. Her quest line is also tied into Sir Ansbach’s and you will need to speak to her to complete the rest of the mission.
So make your way to the grace and talk to Freyja. You will then meet her on the seventh floor of the Specimen Storehouse in Shadow Keep where she will tell you about how she always wanted to talk to Ansbach but never got a chance.
Exhaust her dialogs and then head over to Ansbach in his little study on the first floor. Tell her about Freyja and then go through all his dialog options.
Reset the area by resting at a grace and talk to Ansbach again who will now give you a letter for Freyja. So make your way to her on the fourth floor and deliver the message.
You will get the Golden Lion Shield as a reward, and then go back to Ansbach to tell him about Freyja’s reaction and move on to the final part of the quest line.
4) Save Ansbach from Leda
For the final step make your way to Leda at the Highroad Cross Site of Grace. You will find this location right outside Castle Ensis, so find her and speak to her to learn that she has been trying to hunt down Ansbach for some time now.
So exhaust her dialogs and head back to where you had last seen Ansbach in the Shadow Keep. However, you will not find the NPC there, instead, you will notice a red summon marker and a gold summon marker.
As you are trying to complete Ansbach’s side of the quest, you will need to interact with the gold summon icon. This will teleport you to the fight as his ally and together you will need to take down Leda.
Once Leda is dead you will be transported back to your world and receive Ansbach’s Longbow and Leda’s Rune (worth 40,000 Runes).
However, Ansbach is nowhere to be found. You will meet the NPC once again right before the final boss fight of the DLC.
