Highly-anticipated games expected to appear in Summer Game Fest 2025

With June approaching it is almost that time of the year when the gaming industry starts to reveal new games and plans for the upcoming fiscal year. E3 used to be one of the biggest industry events during this time, which unfortunately is long dead.

But instead, we have something new, The Summer Game Fest, which is also similarly exciting, with pre-recorded game announcements and occasional live developer interviews being the standard format now.

Summer Game Fest this year is slated to go live on June 6th, and with that, we have listed a bunch of rumored titles below, which could make an appearance during the announcements.

Games that are likely to be revealed during the Summer Game Fest

Darksiders 4

A fan favorite title from the publishers at THQ Nordic, Darksiders has a long-running history in the action adventure genre of video games ,with the first game releasing back in 2010

In 2024, during the THQ Nordic games showcase, the company teased the newest installment, which has fans excited. The game is said to be under development at Gunfire Games studios, which are known to have worked on the third game as well.

Outside the teaser last year, no new information has been shared yet. So, a formal reveal of the game is long due, and fans hope to see it this year. With Summer Game Fest closing in, there is a possibility that we will finally get to see it.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight’s second game, titled ‘Silksong’, does not need any new introductions, as it was a game that was revealed quite a while back. This is a game that can be considered as one of the most anticipated titles that should have been released a long time ago.

The first game took the metroidvania fandom by storm when it released back in 2017 and is regarded as one of the most important indie platforming games ever made.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a game that first appeared back in 2019, but so far, it has become the centre of wild internet memes. Since the developers at Team Cherry have not made a formal announcement of the game’s release date yet.

The game deserves to be on this list due to the sheer weight of anticipation it carries behind it, and hopefully, the fans get what they want this year.

Wolf Among Us 2

The new defunct Telltale Games was marred with various controversies that led to its shutting down. But the developers are widely remembered for reinventing choice-based adventure games from the yesteryears with titles such as The Walking Dead and Jurassic Park games.

One of the most popular titles Telltale ever made was The Wolf Among Us, which was based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series. In 2017, the company announced a second season for the game, but Telltale Games shut down before that could happen.

Fortunately, with the assistance of LCG Entertainment, the project was revived and announced to be alive in 2019 with all the previous staff still working behind yet. There have been no announcements since, but fans hope for a formal gameplay reveal soon.

Pragmata

There is no doubt about the fact that Capcom is one of the behemoths in the current AAA gaming landscape with an incredible lineup of titles such as Street Fighter 6, Monster Hunter Wilds and the countless Resident Evil games.

Along with these, Capcom is also known to constantly release experimental titles in hopes of birthing new popular IPs. A few of which recently released were Exoprimal and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.

In 2020, Capcom revealed a new sci-fi title, Pragmata, which fans were hoping was going to be the new big IP from the company. It was slated to release in 2022, but unfortunately, the game kept getting delayed with postponement of the project announced in 2023

While there are no hints suggesting that the game could appear in this year’s Summer Game Fest, a new update on the title’s development is long overdue.

Persona 4 Remake

Even though Persona 5 is the game that kickstarted a global hype around the Persona IP. It was Persona 4, which is considered to be one of the most celebrated Persona titles among most people in the JRPG fanbase.

Released originally back in 2008, Persona 4 was a game that changed people’s perception about the general setting of Japanese RPGs.

The developer Atlus has been recently on a roll re-releasing some of their classic titles for modern platforms with updated gameplay and visuals. Persona 3 Reload was released recently, which was a remake of the third game.

Rumors of the fourth game being remade have been making the rounds all over the internet, with clues around domain registry. We have yet to see whether this culminates into an actual game, but rumors around Atlus remakes generally tend to become true.

Resident Evil 9

Probably the most popular Capcom franchise with millions in sales and some really good titles, including remakes. Being one of the pioneering games of the survival horror genre, the Resident Evil franchise needs no introduction.

The last chronologically released game in the series was Resident Evil Village, in 2021, and in 2023, with the release of a long-awaited remake for one of the most popular games in the franchise, Resident Evil 4, Capcom has been feeding the fans frequently.

But Resident Evil fans cannot stop craving for the ninth entry in their franchise, because a two-year release gap is going to be too much.

Thankfully, rumors around a new entry have been ripe with all sorts of speculations, and the upcoming year marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary, Summer Game Fest 2025, seems like the right time to formally announce a new title.

Kingdom Hearts IV

Aside from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games, Kingdom Hearts has to be the third most popular IP in Square Enix’s library. A game franchise that was born out of collaborative efforts with another giant company such as Disney.

Though the fourth entry in the franchise was already revealed back in 2022, Square Enix is notorious for their radio silence when it comes to news updates for an already announced game.

But official screenshots for the fourth entry have been recently making the rounds all over the internet, So there is a slight possibility that more news will appear soon.

With the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, which was going to be a title for mobile devices. Summer Game Fest is the right time to cheer up fans with a gameplay trailer and release date announcement.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Insomniac Games is a prized studio in the gaming industry with a long-running history of some incredible titles such as Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank series and recently, the amazing Marvel’s Spider-Man games.

In 2023, Sony decided to team up with Marvel once again, exploring another superhero IP. This time it was X-Men’s Wolverine.

Unfortunately, Insomniac Games went through a massive ransomware attack in the same year, which led to a lot of data being stolen. Including a fully playable build for Spider-Man 2 and a still-in-development build for Marvel’s Wolverine game.

Leaks can cause sufficient disruption in the development pipeline for a game, potentially leading to projects getting shelved. But thankfully, Insomniac Game Studio is still committed to working on the game for a PS5 release.

Hopes in the fandom for a potential trailer is currently in the air, with an update on the game’s release window.

A New Tomb Raider

It has been quite a while since the last new Tomb Raider title was released, which was Shadow of the Tomb Raider back in 2018. Back then, the IP was still owned by Square Enix with Eidos Montreal developing the games.

But the Tomb Raider IP was handed over to the notorious Embracer Group back in 2022 to a lot of fans’ surprise.

Even though the games have stayed alive with frequent releases, including a remastered collection that dropped recently. Fans have always stayed iffy about expecting a new game from the franchise.

Thankfully, rumors of a new entry in the franchise started turning up last year, with the game being developed by Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon Games being the publisher. Summer Game Fest 2025 would be the perfect stage for a formal reveal.

Half Life 3

This might be the wildest title one can have expectations as it has been memed to death over the years. Half Life franchise needs no introduction, it is one of Valve’s earliest games and one that majorly influenced storytelling in the first-person shooter genre.

The third entry in the Half Life game series has long been rumored to exist as a game with shelved development, dating back a decade. Rumors of it getting finally revealed occasionally kept turning up with no end result.

Fortunately for us, it’s that time of the year once again. Recent rumors of the game go as far as to suggest that a fully playable build of the game already exists and might get revealed this year, and Summer Game Fest looks like the perfect time for it.
