The Research Institute in Frostpunk 2 is an important building because it’ll give you access to the Idea Tree in the game.
Despite the guidance that you receive in the first chapter of the game when it comes to constructing this building, it can be slightly tricky.
So, here’s how you build a Research Institute in Frostpunk 2, especially if you’re looking to appease one of the many factions in the game.
How to construct a Research Institute in Frostpunk 2
- Click on the building icon in the bottom-right corner of your game.
- On the tab that opens, select the Housing tab and then on the Research Institute.
- You’ll see a pulsating circle in the Housing District. Click on this circle and you’ll have constructed the Research Institute.
To build the Research Institute in Frostpunk 2, you’ll need the following items:
- 400 Workforce
- 100 Heatstamps
- 50 Prefabs
You’ll also need 400 Workforce and 20 Heat to keep the building from functioning. That aside, you’ll also have to expand your Housing District to accomodate the building.
Here’s how you can expand the Housing District:
- Click on a Housing District to make its information pane appear and click on the arrow icon at the bottom of the pane.
- Select three tiles that are adjacent to the Housing District. If three tiles aren’t available use Frostbreak to unlock these tiles.
- Once you’ve done this, click on the tick mark that appears.
It’s also worth noting that expanding the Housing District will cost you 50 Heatstamps and 50 Prefabs, but it’ll also raise your Settlement cap by 5.
Additionally, you can expand the Housing District in Frostpunk 2 once again to increase the building capacity by 1.
How to use the Idea Tree in Frostpunk 2
Once you’ve unlocked the Idea Tree, you will be able to research different ideas including, but not limited to Buildings, Laws, and additional passives that can come in handy as you progress through the game, especially during the endgame stages.
