7 tips to get OP early in The First Berserker Khazan

The First Berserker Khazan, much like most modern souls-likes, features a ton of improvements over the original Dark Souls formula. The game also brings with it ways to level up and build your character as you play through the campaign, often allowing for certain overpowered builds.

Following these tips in the early game should allow you to get quite powerful early on, and while it is most certainly no substitute for actual skill, it may end up helping players stuck within a particular fight or the like in this action-adventure game. More on these tips below.

How to get overpowered fast in The First Berserker Khazan

1) Invest your skill points into Vitality first

Players can upgrade abilities in The First Berserker Khazan, by using an in-game currency known as Lacrima. This item can then in turn also be used to level up player stats – of which there will be multiple options.

However, players will find it in their best interests to invest points into Vitality first, over the likes of Endurance and Strength. A higher Vitality will ensure you stay alive for longer. Players can also use the Primeval Regression Orb to reset stats at will, so feel free to experiment.

2) Invest in the right skills for early game

Certain skills are a lot more potent than others, and investing into these abilities should help players ease into the game much quicker. In particular, these three skills from the Resources section are a must have:

  • Opportunistic Spirit: A brink dodge will generate spirit
  • Berserk Spirit: Boosts spirit accumulation on attacking
  • Indomitable Spirit: Boosts spirit generation on a brink guard

All 3 skills can be upgraded further, and are incredibly useful to have – after all, Spirits are essential to combat, and generating them faster is the key to success.

3) More niche, but powerful skills

Other than the basic 3 skills mentioned above, there also do exist a series of unique skills that can amplify your play style even further. A few recommended ones include:

  • Reflection: This skill tree allows players to deflect attacks and thereby both damage the enemy, and reduce their stamina in the process. While it is quite tricky to execute, it is most certainly worth mastering.
  • Brutal Attack: Reap allows players to regenerate health using brutal attacks to the front, which is quite useful in clutch situations.

4) Guarding and Blocking

Guarding and blocking is essential to combat in The First Berserker Khazan. Make sure to be well acquainted with the game’s many mechanics, and time your dodges, parries and the like accurately.

Mastering these basic moves will help you progress through the campaign and become the ultimate warrior. Basics are important, after all.

Additionally, it is recommended to invest skill points into the Fleet Footed and Ironclad abilities at your earliest.

5) Scale the correct stats first

Depending on your weapon of choice, you will have to scale your stats accordingly. Certain weapons feel and work better with certain perks, and there is no exception to this rule. Refer to the following table for a general overview on what to prioritize:

Weapon TypeStat to focus on
SpearProficiency
GreatswordStrength
Dual wielding Strength and Willpower

Remember to use the Primeval Regression Orb as and when required to reset your stats – especially when you grab a new weapon.

Additionally, make sure to use proper, complete sets in order to obtain their respective set bonuses, which can turn the tide of battle in your favor.

6) Farm EXP

Like many soulsborne games, The First Berserker Khazan also makes use of ‘bonfires’, or as they are known in the game – the Blade Nexus. Interact with the same to spawn a save and entirely heal yourself – at the cost of respawning (almost) all enemies in the region.

While cumbersome, it can prove to be quite effective in farming EXP, and a great way to level up before a more difficult encounter. Just make sure to not die inbetween.

7) Use throwables whenever you can

Throwables (or consumables) can be quite nifty when used right. In particular, elemental items are quite powerful, as they imbue elemental effects on weapons (and even enemies). A great example would be in burn damage, which chips away at the enemy’s health over time.
