How to start Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Shadow of the Erdtree is the new DLC expansion for the open-world game Elden Ring, which releases on June 20, 2024.

There are certain requirements that need to be tackled before you can start playing the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Accessing the new Elden Ring expansion requires killing two major bosses in the main game. This allows you to the Land of the Shadow, which is the new map in which the Shadow of the Erdtree is set.

How to start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Radahn Scarlet Rot Elden Ring

To start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, you need to defeat two bosses in the main game. These are:

  1. Starscourge Radahn: The fearsome boss Radahn resides in Caelid. To face him, you’ll need to trigger the Radahn Festival at Redmane Castle.
  2. Mohg, Lord of Blood: This optional boss lurks within the depths of Mohgwyn Palace.

After you have defeated both Radahn and Mohg, you need to head to the throne room of the Mohgwyn Palace. Here, you will find a large white cocoon, with a withered arm protruding from it. Interacting with this arm will transport you to the Land of Shadow, which is the world in which Shadow of the Erdtree’s story is set.

How to prepare for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Although Mohg, Lord of Blood is an optional boss, it is not exactly the easiest one to defeat. If you manage to beat Mohg, then you should already be well-prepared for the journey in the new lands. The new map can be considered to be mid-to-late game difficulty level when compared to the Elden Ring main game.

If you find yourself struggling against Mohg, Lord of Blood, you are likely not fully ready for the new content. You should grind up to at least level 120 before defeating it and heading to the new DLC content.
