Thunderlord Zinogre and the Soulseer Mizutsune are two incredibly powerful monster deviants that you can unlock as soon as you enter Tarkuan, which is the third region of Monster Hunter Stories 3.
However, getting them both takes a bit of work, and you will need to meet certain conditions as well.
How to unlock Mizutsune
The first thing you will need to do is to unlock Mizutsune, which can be done as soon as you enter the Canalta Timberland.
From the Cataracts Camp, head north along the river till you reach a cave behind a waterfall. Make sure you are doing this at night.
Here you will find the Invasive Shogun Ceanataur, and you can either choose to look for clues around the place or start the encounter right away.
Now, to repel this monster, all you will need to do is buff up your monstie’s defences to reach Defense Up (L) when it starts using its claws for invasive attacks.
Its claws are brittle, so when it targets your monstie with the attack, its claws will shatter and bounce off as long as the maximum level of the buff is active.
Two of the best ways of getting Defense up are to either use a Hunting Horn that comes with the effect, or use the Egg Skill: Circle Stance move that a lot of normal monsties come with.
One of the best picks for this will be an S-rank Arzuros that you can farm in Canalta itself.
Once you are able to break its claws, there will be a small repel animation, and you will be able to access the new den to get your hands on a Mizutsune egg.
How to unlock Zinogre
Once you have Mizutsune and, later, gained access to Tarkuan, you will need to head to the Rococo Rocks Catavan Stand, which is located to the very East of the region, and then cross the gap to make it to the mountains to the north.
Keep heading inward, and you will soon find the second invasive monster that you will need to repel, which is going to be an Odogaron.
Now, to repel this monster, you will need a monstie with a Muddy Hell or Mud Torrent ability, which lays down a trap that will deal continuous water damage to Odogaron.
The goal is to cool its superheated claws, so once it goes to do its Invasive Claw attacks, it will slip and run away in utter shame and embarrassment.
One of the best monsters for this is an Almudron, which you will be able to get as soon as you enter Tarkuan.
Once you repel the Odogaron, you will now have access to the Zinogre Egg.
How to unlock Thunderlord Zinogre and Soulseer Mizutsune
If you read the monster bios for both the Thunderlord and Soulseer mutations, you will notice that their unlock conditions are tied to having a particular rival in the zone.
For Soulseer Mizutsune, you will need to have a monster in the zone that has electricity-imbued bodies and charges up the ground in its wake. While Thunderlord Zinogre needs a rival that has enchanting purple fur.
So if you haven’t realized it already, Mizutsune’s bio is referring to a Zinogre, and Zinogre’s bio is referring to a Mizutsune.
This is a neat little throwback to the rivalry, which was shown in the Monster Hunter Generations opening cinematic.
Hence, all you will need to do is to release Mizutsune and Zinogre in the same sub-region and take both of their ranks up to S.
You will unlock the Soulseer Mizutsune as a result, and for Zinogre, you will first get the Stygian mutation, and finally the Thunderlord mutation.
