In 2025, the League of Legends devs will be introducing a slew of changes to how the battle pass and reward system work in the MOBA. The structure around the systems was pretty bloated till season 14, and Riot will be looking to streamline them, making it much easier for players to get their hands on the cosmetics that they want.
The developers will be refreshing a lot of the mechanics starting patch 25.S1.1 (formerly 15.1). Here is a list of all the major changes that you can expect in League of Legends’ battle pass in 2025.
League of Legends 2025 battle pass and reward changes
Here are some of the major changes that the rewards and battle pass system will be enjoying in League of Legends from 2025:
1) Rewards will be tied to the season theme
2025 will introduce a new seasonal system in League of Legends. Each season will have a predominant theme that much of the content in the MOBA will be based around. Each year will be divided into three seasons and splits, each season will have two Acts and every act will feature four patches.
Season 1 of 2025 will be based centered on Noxus and the update will be accompanied by thematic changes all throughout the Rift along with the introduction of a new Epic Jungle Monster. While Riot will be celebrating other events like Lunar New Year, April Fools, and more, the rewards that you will be getting in Season 1 will primarily be themed around Noxus.

When talking about these themes in the recent Dev Update, Riot stated,
“The majority of our content will be connected to the theme of that Season… to show and immerse you into different parts of Runeterra from the moment you open the client to the moment you see a Victory screen and everything in between… Seasons also gave us the perfect opportunity to take a better look at some of League’s core rewards systems.”
2) Battle pass gains a new extended system
in 2025 a seasonal battle pass will always be active and will last for around four months (the length of one season or split) instead of two. The pass will also be divided into two versions: free as well as paid.
The paid version will include way more rewards, but the free one too will have a lot in store for those who are looking to make the most of a season. As the pass will be active for a longer period now, you will have more time to complete all the tiers.
You gain battle pass experience by playing matches and completing various tasks. A new task system will include mission categories like Daily, Weekly, Events, Acts, and more. Completing these tasks will grant you a hefty amount of battle pass XP every time.
Moreover, Riot has also mentioned that to finish the battle pass, you will not be required to complete all the objectives. It’s now tailored to be much more casual-player friendly and even if you usually enjoy the MOBA on an “on-and-off” basis you will still be able to unlock all the tiers.
When talking about the battle pass system changes that are coming in 2025, the League of Legends developers stated the following:
“If you’re able to do your daily mission every day, you don’t need to go too far into other missions [to finish the pass]. If you’re unable to play every day, that’s fine too, as the passive experience for playing games, Act-long missions, and infinite Mastery Milestone missions will cover you.”
3) Free vs Paid battle pass in League of Legends
As mentioned, LoL will be getting two battle pass versions in 2025: free and paid. Here is the breakdown of them both and the kind of rewards that you can expect from them once you complete all the tiers:
Free pass rewards:
All players will have access to the free pass in League of Legends. When you earn XP and unlock the tiers here, you will be eligible for the following rewards:
- One thematic Earnable Skin Permanent
- One random 975 RP or low
- One Title
- Two Emotes
- Two Mystery Emotes
- Three Icons
- Two Mystery Icons
- Four Champion Capsules
- 4750 Blue Essence (plus infinite repeating levels at the end of the track)
Every year, F2P players will be able to get their hands on 15 skins when they complete the battle passes in their entirety. This is a significant improvement over the number of cosmetics players are earning today.
Paid pass rewards and price:
In 2025 the paid League of Legends battle pass will cost 1,650 RP for the standard edition with two higher-tier editions costing 2,650 RP and 3,650 RP respectively. Here is what each paid battle pass edition will offer:
RP Cost | Available content |
---|---|
1,650 RP | -Access to the entire Battle Pass |
2,650 RP | -Access to the entire Battle Pass -10 Pass Levels -Champion receiving the Prestige -Prestige Emote |
3,650 RP | -Access to the entire Battle Pass -10 Pass Levels -Champion receiving the Prestige -Prestige Emote -25 Mythic Essence -Prestige Chroma |
Here is everything that the paid version of the battle pass will net you:
- Everything from the Free Pass
- Three Ancient Sparks
- One Prestige Skin
- Three Reward Skins
- Three Borders
- Seven Loot Orbs
- One Banner
- One Ward Skin
- Two Emotes
- Two Icons
- 1000 Orange Essence (Plus an infinitely repeatable 25 OE every 5 levels after 50)
Note: In 2025 League of Legends will not have a Prestige skin and a non-Prestige skin in the battle pass. You will only have access to one Prestige skin and Riot will be focusing its efforts on Prestige alone trying to create higher-quality cosmetics.
4) Honor and Honor Shop changes
from 2025, Riot wants Honor levels to be more meaningful in League of Legends. Once the new season goes live with 25.S1.1 a new system will be in place which will reward players with more battle pass XP if their Honor is high.
Additionally, if you are able to maintain your high honor level you will also receive post-game bonuses in LoL which will include stuff like getting more targeted pings that you can send per minute. Players who have low honor will have limited access to all of these features.
Note: From2025 player honor will also reset no longer. So it will forever be the actual representation of your in-game behavior.

5) Masterwork Chets leave the game
Masterwork Chests will no longer be available in League of Legends once Patch 25.S1.1 goes live on January 6, 2024. Riot is doing this because they are simplifying LoL’s currencies and there is no room for the Masterwork Milestone track.
Once the patch drops, all earned track rewards will be automatically claimed. However, any unopened chests will not count towards any progression. You will still have access to Hextech Chests and open them as Riot is continuing to make them the best way of obtaining skin shards.
6) Champion Mastery will be linked to the battle pass
You will be able to collect champion mastery points as you used to, but mastery missions will now be a part of an objective model that Riot is introducing in the battle pass hub itself. Here is a list of all the missions and how to complete them:
Mission | How to complete | Mission Type |
---|---|---|
Mission One | Complete a Mastery milestone on any champion | Infinite |
Mission Two | Complete Mastery milestone four on any champion | One Per Season |
Mission Three | Complete 12 milestones in your Mastery Set | One Per Season |
Bonus Mission One | Complete 24 milestones in your Mastery Set | One Per Season |
Bonus Mission Two | Complete 40 milestones in your Mastery Set | One Per Season |
7) No more three Capsules
League of Legends currently has a capsule system that includes the following:
- Event
- Showcase
- Mythic Variant
However, from 2025, Event Orbs will be the only capsules that you will have access to.
