Although there is a long way to go before Monster Hunter Wilds officially releases, Capcom has already revealed some basic mechanics players can expect from the RPG. These mechanics include weapon basics, slinger function, Focus Mode, and abilities that can be used when riding a Seikret.
Here is a list of some of the basic gameplay features that you should be aware of when hunting monsters in the upcoming franchise entry.
Monster Hunter Wilds basic weapon mechanics

1) When the weapon is sheathed
When your weapon is sheathed you will be able to move faster and also be able to use items including healing potions. The only exception to this rule will be the Sword and Shield which do not need to be sheathed for using items.
2) When the weapon is drawn
If your weapon is drawn you will be moving much slower and a lot of your mobility options will be limited based on the armament you are using.
However, weapons can only be used in the drawn state and you will be able to use all of its various attacks and abilities.
3) Focus Mode
Focus Mode is a new mechanic which is being added to Wilds. It will let you carefully aim your attacks or guards during a hunt.
As you keep hitting a monster if you use Focus Mode you will be able to highlight parts of their body that are wounded and have taken the highest amount of damage. Attacking these wounds will deal more damage.
Focus Mode will also reveal monster’s weak points. This ties into Focus Strikes which is a specialized move that all weapons can perform. Every weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds will have a Focus Strike that is unique to them.

Monster Hunter Wilds basic Seikret mechanics
Seikret is the new mount that you will be able to enjoy in Monster Hunter Wilds. They are instrumental in getting around the map and will be the means of taking you to the desired location much faster.
Here are some of the special features of the Seikret mount:
1) They will automatically guide you to the target monster of your current quest
Once mounted, the Seikret will be able to automatically take you to the monster that you are hunting in a particular quest. This will let you concentrate on preparing before the fight starts and as the Seikret travels to the monster, you can use your positions and other consumables to buff your hunter.
2) You can use consumables and sharpen weapons when mounted
After mounting a Seikret your hunter will be free to jug their consumables. So in the midst of a fight or outside combat, you can mount it and run away while consuming healing potions to get your HP back up.
Seikrets are going to be a key part of combat especially when it comes to preventing your hunter from carting.
Additionally, you will also be able to sharpen your weapon once you are mounted. This is applicable to all the melee weapons in the game.

3) Gather materials while mounted
While mounted your hunter will be able to gather materials and crafting resources from the environment when mounted. You will just need to tap the button prompt as you walk by them.
4) You can switch between Primary and Secondary weapons when on a Seikret
Seikrets carry a bag that you can interact with to switch between your primary and secondary weapons when mounted. This will bring a fair bit of gameplay versatility to your hunts and you will be able to properly equip your hunter to be able to face all the challenges that Monster Hunter Wilds will throw at you.
5) You can use your Slinger when mounted
Traveling on a Seikret will also let you use your Slinger. You can use the Grapple Hook, Flashbombs, or any other sort of slinger ammo when you are mounted.
Monster Hunter Wilds basic Slinger mechanics
The Slinger is the standard equipment that each hunter will get. It will allow you to:
1) Fire various types of ammo
Slingers ammo is something that you will be able to obtain from the environment in Wilds. Each ammo has a unique interaction with the monster, and you will be able to use it to various effects during a hunt.
2) Hook Slinger can gather items from a distance and interact with the environment

The Hook Slinger is a new addition that will let you acquire slinger ammo and other materials in the open world from a distance. As you can use this while mounted on a Seikret, if you are running low on health potions you can always aim the slinger at some herbs when running away to grab them and automatically make the potion.
The Hook Slinger can also be used to interact with other parts of the terrain. If there are some hanging rock formations you can use the slinger to hit it and bring it down on the monster. This will knock them out for a while allowing you to get some free hits in.
