Pokemon Pokopia’s successful release has led to Nintendo’s stocks going up by 10%

Nintendo just had one of the most successful game launches in the Pokémon franchise with Pokopia, and it has led to the company’s stocks being boosted up to 10%. Usually, Pokémon is a franchise that is constantly under fire for underdelivering in recent generations.

But according to a Bloomberg report, the tables seem to have finally been turned after years, and surprisingly, it was all possible not due to a mainline turn-based Pokémon game but a spinoff sandbox title.

Due to worldwide changes in the global market, driven by memory chip shortages and weird tariff situations, Nintendo wasn’t really facing the easiest of times. Pokémon Pokopia seems to have helped fix the company’s market stock just two days after its release.

The idea behind a Pokémon sandbox spinoff

In 2025, Nintendo revealed a new spinoff game in the franchise that uses the sandbox builder game models similar to titles like Animal Crossing and the Dragon Quest Builders series. It was called Pokémon Pokopia and was immediately met with positive reception.

Pokopia was conceived by the director of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Shigeru Ohmori, who thought that making a sandbox title out of the IP would be a really good idea. The game was co-developed by Game Freak and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio, and it turned out to be an amazing product.

Since the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, the company’s stocks have been at an all-time low outside Japan. But this new title has caused a bump in that by generating a renewed demand for the handheld hardware.

According to further recent reports, the stocks are still on a rise and have gone above the threshold of 15%. This is a major success for a game that was merely thought of as a spin-off title. Surely this will lead to further long-term support for the game, cementing it as a major Nintendo title.

Social media reactions to Pokémon Pokopia

Users on social media have been stoked over the release of this game, with some being genuinely surprised at the fact that they are about to spend a lot of money purchasing a console just for the game.

The praises for Pokopia don’t just end there; it is currently sitting on various review score sites such as Metacritic as one of the highest-rated Pokémon titles ever.

Pokémon Pokopia is currently a $70 game that is locked to Nintendo’s exclusive hardware, but that is not going to stop it from becoming one of the biggest releases for the company this year. Nintendo might just have miraculously cracked the code for the first big commercial success on the Switch 2 since launch.
