How to get every Legendary Pokemon in Legends Z-A

Currently, you will be able to get your hands on three Legendary Pokemon in Legends Z-A: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. However, catching them is one of the hardest tasks in the game, and you will need to have a good party of Pokemon with you to be able to bring their HP down low enough for the Poke Ball to be effective.

So if you are looking to catch each of the Legendaris in the RPG, then the guide below will help you out.

Catching all three Legendaries in Pokemon Legends Z-A

You will only be able to catch the three Legendaries after you have beaten the campaign in Pokemon Legendz Z-A. As the story is quite straightforward, it won’t take you long to round out the main narrative.

Once you beat the campaign, you will then wake up in Hotel Z. You will then need to chat with some of the other NPCs around to learn that the Infinite Z-A Royale is ongoing, and you will need to keep earning tickets from the Battle Zone.

This will eventually let you face off against a rival trainer, the same NPC you met when you were at level Z. Once you beat him, you will then unlock the two following quest lines:

  • The One that Gives
  • The One that Takes

These quests are linked to the Legendaries, and you will need to progress through both to catch them all.

How to catch Xerneas in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Xerneas Pokemon Legends Z-A

Xerneas is a part of the “One that Gives” quest line. There are two parts to this quest, and the first thing you will need to do is to talk to Mable at the Pokemon Research center and she will tell you about the Alpha Pokemon appearing in Wild Zones 3,5, and 9.

This is the first part of the questline, where you will face off against the following enemies:

Wild ZonePokemon
Wild Zone 3Steelix
Steelix (Level 70)
Wilds Zone 5Gallade
Gallade (Level 70)
Wild Zone 9Pangoro
Pangoro (Level 70)

As long as you have types that can counter these Pokemon, then you will have a much easier time taking them on. Moreover, do make sure that you catch them after, and these are Alpha Variants of very powerful Pokemon, so they will come with atleast one move that is not normally learned by their species.

Once you have taken all of them down, you will have completed part 1 of the questline. This will then unlock part two, where you will finally get to catch Xerneas after heading to the marker in Wild Zone 11.

Xerneas is a Fairy-type Pokemon, so you will want to use Poison and Steel-types against them. If you have caught the Alpha Steelix from part one of this questline, then you will have a much easier time taking this Legendary on.

You will be able to catch Xerneas once you have incapacitated it. However, if you fail your attempt, you will need to restart the encounter.

How to catch Yveltal in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Yveltal Pokemon Legends Z-A

Yveltal is a part of the “One that Takes” questline. Much like the previous, this two takes place in two parts, and the first thing you will need to do is to talk to Grisham and Griselle, former members of Team Flare. They will then accompany you to Quasartico Inc. where you talk to Vinnie and gain access to a machine that lets you fight Mega evolved version of three Pokemon:

Weak against Fire abilitiesIts ultimate move will cause an eruption of blobs that make poison pools. This pool will linger on the ground dealing damage over time.
Mega Hawlucha Image
Mega Hawlucha (level 70)
Weak against Psychic and Fairy abilities. At times, Mega Hawlucha will charge for some seconds and then perform a dive bomb attack at the center of the arena dealing a huge amount of damage. You can flinch it out of the charging animation by dealing enough damage. While it will still perform the dive bomb after, it will deal reduced damage.
Mega Tyranitar Image
Mega Tyranitar (level 70)
Weak against Water and GrassMega Tyranitar will send out spiky tremors that will travel along the ground. This deals a huge amount of damage, and if our Pokemon is not resistant to it, they will be wiped out, so dismiss them and keep running sideways to avoid the attack.

Once you have taken all three of them down, you will then move on to part two of this questline. This is where you will finally face off against Yveltal, who spawns on the rooftop of Galerie de la Lune, which are the shops in the northern part of the city.

Yveltal is a Dark/Flying type; hence, it’s weak to Electric and Ice-types in particular. So bring Pokemon that have strong moves around these elements to take on the Legendary. A Fair-type Pokemon like Clefable is also a good option, as Yveltal is weak to both Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam.

You will be able to catch Yveltal at the end of the battle; however, missing this opportunity will force you to redo the encounter.

How to catch Zygarde in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Zygrade in Pokemon Legends Z-A

While Zygarde will appear multiple times throughout the course of the narrative, the only time you will be able to catch it is after you have completed the story and have taken on both Xerneas and Yveltal.

After you catch Xerneas and Yveltal, you will not see any other quest marker. So head back to Hotel Z, and you will then be approached by L, or Lysandre, which will then kick off the “Keep the World in Balance” questline.

You will then need to beat him in a battle. He will be fielding the following Pokemon:

Pyroar
Pyroar (level 78)
Normal/Fire
Florges
Florges (level 78)
Fairy
Sableye

Garbodor

Poison
Noivern

Flying/Dragon
Mega Gyarados

Water/Dark

Once you beat Lysandre, you will then finally face off against Zygarde by heading into Wild Zone 20 and then looking for it in the middle of the area. This encounter has multiple phases, and you will meet Zygarde at 10% power and at level 84. It’s a Dragon/Ground-type Pokemon, and will be a bit weak to Dragon and Fairy moves.

Yveltal (Dark/Flying) and Clefable (Fairy) are some of the best choices to use against him. And once you beat its dog form, Zygarde will reach 50% power and take on a more Serpent-like appearance.

Zygarde will then spam the following attacks:

  • Rock Slide
  • Crunch
  • Dragon Pulse

Once you beat the second form, the difficulty of the encounter will go up several notches as you will then face off against his 100% power form, where he takes on a more robot-like appearance.

His basic attacks will now become Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves. The best way to counter it will be with a Flying-type like Yveltal. However, the thing you will need to watch out for the most is the two ultimate attacks:

  • Core Enforcer: Zygarde will fly to the end of the arena and perform an extremely powerful beam attack. Dismiss your Pokemon when this happens and then run away from the center. Keep moving till you reach a safe spot.
  • Land’s Wrath: Zygarde will perform a move that causes multiple explosions in quick succession. You will need to dodge them all, or it will hit you multiple times, causing you to blackout.

After the encounter, you will then be able to catch Zygarde.

How to get Zygarde Mega Evolution in Pokemon Z-A

Mega Zygarde in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Once you have caught Zygarde you will be able already be able to access its Mega Evolution. This is because the game already rewards you with a Zygardite keystone for completing the campaign. So just make sure that the Pokemon has it equipped to be able to access the transformation.

Next, Lysandre will give you the Zygarde Cube, which will allow you to switch between its 10% and 50% form mid-combat.

However, Zygarde will only evolve into its 100% form after its HP drops below 50%. It is only in this form that you will be able to access its Mega Evolution as well. Once Zygarde reaches his complete form, he will gain a massive stat boost and access to Nihil Light.
