Shin Megami Tensei 5 Canon of Vengeance Yakumo and Nuwa boss guide

Yakumo and Nuwa are a main story boss duo that you encounter mid-way into the narrative in Shin Megami Tensei 5‘s Canon of Vengeance route. You will face off against them in Jozoji Temple, where the pair will block you from destroying Agrat’s Magatsuhi pool as they want to lure the Qadištu into a trap once they come to collect it.

You will be joined by Yuzuru in this fight, and the encounter can be quite challenging if you do not have the proper party setup. While she comes with good Force skills, Nuwa will usually rely on support skills to buff Yakumo.

Yakumo, on the other hand, has some hard-hitting strength-based attacks that can one-shot your entire party if you are not careful.

Here is a guide on how you can make the Nuwa and Yakumo Encounter significantly more manageable in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance.

How to beat Yakumo and Nuwa in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Canon of Vengeance

1) Focus on Nuwa first

Nuwa’s Matarukaja and Dekaja are very annoying to deal with. She will buff Yakumo while removing all of the status buffs that you have put on your party. This makes the fight considerably harder than it needs to be.

No focus down Nuwa as soon as the fight starts. She is weak to fire and a party member like Yoko who has strong Fire skills can make this fight considerably easier. Once Nuwa is down, Yakumo will be much more manageable.

2) Make sure to have Phys Block

Another reason why Yoko is a solid pick for the encounter is because of her Phy Block skill. Yakumo mainly does Physical attacks like Deathbound and Critical Slash. He will occasionally throw in a Galvanic Slash, so making good use of Phy Block can help consume their press turns.

However, do keep in mind that Phy Block takes a lot of MP to cast. So make sure you have enough Chakra Drops and Pots to keep Yoko topped up.

3) Make good use of Yuzuru

Yuzuru is capable of drawing enemy aggro. This will let him be the primary target for enemy attacks like Dancing Strike, Galvanic Strike, Critical Slash, and Zanma. So make sure to use as many Evasion and Defence buffs on him as possible.

Additionally, if you have Onyankopon on the team you can unlock his Tetrakan and and put it on Yuzuru every round as long as he is drawing aggro. This will let him repel Physical attacks.

4) Stock up on Force and Elec Dampeners

After they gather Magatsuhi, Nuwa will in most cases go for a Mazandyne while Yakumo will settle for Deathbound or Galvanic Strike. So when you see them activating Omagatoci: Critical make Yoko use Phy Block and make the Nahobino and Yuzuru use Force and Elec Dampeners.

You will be able to buy the Dampeners from Gustave, so make sure to stock up on them before starting the fight. Once you black the in coming attack, you will completely consume their press turns.

Best demons for beating Nuwa and Yakumo in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Canon of Vengeance

Best Support:

  • Yoko
  • Yuzuru
  • Onyankopon
  • Kushinada-Hime

Yoko is a must-pick for the fight because of her Phy Block. Yuzu is also capable of soaking up most of the damage that Nuwa and Yakumo throw at you.

Support alternatives for the fight will be Onyankopon because of his Tetrakarn and Kushinada-Hime as with the proper fusion you can have Dekaja, Masakukaja, Marakukaja, and Matarunda on her.

Kushinada-Hime SMT 5 Vengeance

Best Healers:

  • Kushinada-Hime
  • Tao
  • Dominion
  • Sarasvati

All of these party members are great at healing the team. Kushinada Hime and Tao in particular will be able to heal up your entire team. So if you are taking massive damage from Deathbound and Mazandyne, they will be able to top you right up.

Best Damage:

  • Nahobino
  • Yoko
  • Flauros
  • Orobas

Phy Bock is not the only thing you should be relying on Yoko for. She has good Dark and Fire skills which Nuwa and Yakumo are weak to. Additionally, if you are building a Mage on Nahobino and have been maxing out the elemental affinities then they will be able to do a lot of damage.

Additionally, both Flauros and Orobas have Fire and Dark skills with an affinity towards them. So if you ar lacking damage threats on the team, you can always use them for the extra DPS.

Nuwa Yakumo boss fight completion

Once you have beaten Nuwa and Yakumo, you will then be able to continue with the rest of the story in Atlus‘ RPG.
