Throne and Liberty Cave of Desperation dungeon guide

The Cave of Desperation is a dungeon that you will encounter in the later stages of the game in Throne and Liberty. This dungeon is small but circular and has a lot of powerful enemies that you need to defeat before you get to the boss.

That said, you’ll get a lot of good gear for successfully completing this activity too, making it one that you must complete whenever you have a party of six players available.

While there’s no class-specific requirements, it’s best to have a balance of ranged/melee DPS and healers alongside tanks, in your party.

Throne and Liberty Cave of Desperation dungeon walkthrough

There are a few key points that you need to take into account before you start off with the Cave of Desperation dungeon in Throne and Liberty:

  • This dungeon will be available to you once you’ve hit level 40, and it’s recommended that you go in with a combat power of 1200.
  • Of all the enemies that you encounter, it’s important that you kill the Gem Ants as soon as you can when you spot them. These ants buff other ants in the arena, so it’s important that you take them out first.
  • There are other Elite Ants that you will face, but the most annoying ones are the exploding ants. So make sure you either dodge them or eliminate them as soon as you can, because if they explode then you’ll take a lot of damage.

With that said, here’s how you can defeat all three bosses in the Cave of Desperation dungeon in Throne and Liberty.

How to defeat Mutant Princess Ant

The Mutant Princess Ant is the first boss you will encounter in the Cave of Desperation dungeon. To trigger the fight, you’ll have to destroy some ants first and then deal with some larvae that appear.

Once you’ve dispatched off these enemies, the Mutant Princess Ant will spawn. The fight is pretty straightforward and don’t have any additional mechanics that you need to complete.

However, the boss has a few specific attacks that it executes during the fight that you need to watch out for:

  • Cone breath attack: This is an AoE attack that the Mutant Ant does and can target a single player. This attack can be blocked easily.
  • Exploding Larvae summon: Every now and then the boss will summon a Larva time bomb that attaches to a player. To defuse and destroy the larva, you will have to interact with it.
  • Larva Swarm summon: After losing a certain amount of health, the boss will shout and call for reinforcements. Here’s when you’ll notice two different colored larvae appear into the arena. The red ones change into Soldier Ants, and the green ones change into Exploding Mutant Acid ants. Destroy them as soon as you can.

Once you’ve completed this fight, a part of the wall will crumble and will reveal a new section of the cave, taking you directly to the second boss fight in the Cave of Desperation dungeon in Throne and Liberty.

How to defeat Mutant Giant Acid Ant

The Mutant Giant Acid Ant, just like the first boss, needs to be summoned in Throne and Liberty. To summon the boss, you’ll have to destroy all the poison sacs that spawn in the second room.

After you’ve broken the first sac, a fresh set of poison sacs spawn, which when destroyed, will spawn Gem Ants and Mutant Soldier Ants. Destroy them, and the final sac will spawn.

When you destroy this sac, the Mutant Giant Acid Ant will spawn. This fight also is straightforward, but there are a few attacks that you need to watch out for:

  • Poison Spit: Although this attack is targeted at a single player, when the poison drops, it also works as an AoE attack. Anyone who steps into this area will take poison damage.
  • Stun: Occasionally, the Mutant Giant Acid Ant will roar and target a player and stun them. While you can dodge and block this attack, if you miss it, then you’ll be pulled close to the boss and potentially in a pool of acid.

It’s also worth noting that Exploding Ants will continuously spawn. So, make sure to destroy these enemies as soon as you see them, because they have the potential of killing the squishier members of your team instantly.

How to beat Lacune in Throne and Liberty

Lacune is the final boss in the Cave of Desperation dungeon in Throne and Liberty, and is one of the hardest bosses in the game.

Unlike the previous encounters, the boss fight has multiple mechanics that you need to deal with. These mechanics are:

  • Swipe Attacks: Lacune has a rage meter which is a purple bar below its health bar. It keeps filling up as the fight progresses, and when it’s full, the boss will unleash a series of attacks at the player dealing the highest damage.
  • Paralysis/Poisonous Ants: Ants that paralyze and poison players will enter the arena periodically, and one player should focus on these enemies to prevent a wipe.
  • Red Pillar of Death: Lacune shouts and creates a red pillar of death. On the ground you’ll see multiple circles spawn. Stand on them, and you’ll be on top of the pillars. You’ll be able to damage the boss from here, but anyone on the ground at this point will die.
  • Gem Ants Spawn in Platforms: After the pillars crumble, Gem Ants will spawn, so make sure you dispatch these enemies as soon as you can.
  • Exploding Larvae: Just like the first boss, Lacune also summons Exploding Larvae after it drops to 50% health, that you can remove by walking close to the player.
