Tony Todd, the voice actor for Venom has tragically passed away at 69

The gaming and entertainment industry was hit with the unfortunate news of Tony Todd’s death this morning. Tony was well regarded for his roles across multiple entertainment media, the most notable of which was as the Candyman in the 1992 film of the same name.

Tony also voiced multiple characters across animation and video games, including the complicated antagonist Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Tony Todd was born on December 4, 1954 and quickly grew to become a sensational actor after completing his education – notably as an alumnus of the Artists Collective, Inc.

He had since starred in multiple television series (notably in the Star Trek universe as Kurn, the commander of the Klingons) and on Broadway.

He later garnered critical acclaim and managed to land several iconic roles in Hollywood movies such as Candyman, The Rock and Final Destination.

Todd has also voiced multiple characters across animation and video games media. His charming, deep menacing baritone drew in listeners across the world – breathing life into his characters.

In the animation industry, he has also voiced multiple villains such as The Fallen in Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen movie. He was also heavily involved in the DC Animated Universe (DCAU), voicing Dr. Zoom and Darkseid in the many animated movies that were released in recent years.

One of his more notable, recent roles was as the symbiote anti hero known as Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games. The role earned him a nomination for the Performer in a Supporting Role award in the British Academy Games Awards.

Insomniac Games also paid their respects to the actor in an X post earlier today.

Todd tragically passed away today, November 6, 2024 at the age of 69 in his home within Los Angeles. He leaves behind two children.

The loss of Tony Todd is quite unfortunate and will leave a void in the gaming and entertainment industry.
