We are living in an era when there are some gorgeous indie games releasing this year and beyond. These games are not isolated to a particular genre and are way too many to even list down in one go.
So we decided to handpick some of the games we think are the most interesting and visually enticing. There are indie games that are going to be released in 2026 and beyond.
The Most Beautiful Indie Games Releasing This Year and Beyond
Cairn

January 29, 2026
Mountaineering can make an interesting game, but unfortunately, it’s not too well explored in modern gaming, especially with the handholding style of couch gameplay that most popular games harbor.
But one indie game is seeking to change that. Cairn is a game that we have talked about earlier, and it made it into one of our most anticipated lists of games for 2026. This title by The Game Bakers seeks to simulate realistic mountain climbing scenarios with a beautiful art style.
Mouse P.I. For Hire

March 19, 2026
Are you a fan of classic Walt Disney-style animation from the 1930s? When cartoons were fully black and white and bobbed with endless whimsy. Well, a certain developer has been able to successfully recapture that charm in their indie game.
We are not referring to Cuphead, which is an equally fun game in its own right, but Mouse P.I. For Hire takes things a step further by having the whole game play like a first-person shooter set in a cartoon from the bygone era.
Developed by Fumi Games, this title is set to hit all major modern platforms in March. We cannot wait to see what’s in store.
HYPERFUNK

TBA
When fans spent years asking for a new arcade skateboarding game in the vein of Jet Set Radio, Sega did not answer them. So Team Reptile had to take matters into their own hands, blowing everyone’s mind with their own game, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
It had involvement from the legendary composer Hideki Naganuma, thus making it a direct spiritual successor, and it does not seem like the train is stopping yet. Team Reptile is gearing up for a new game, a possible sequel with the same gorgeous Sega Saturn art style.
HYPERFUNK has no release dates yet, but that does not stop it from being one of our most anticipated indie games for the year and beyond.
Esoteric Ebb

Q1 2026
Developer ZA/UM really blew everyone’s minds by bringing back the glory days of dialogue-heavy point-and-click adventure games in 2019 with Disco Elysium. It was the perfect PC RPG, and since then, we have been yearning for an experience similar to that.
While there are some great games similar to it already out by now, we are going to bring your attention to Esoteric Ebb by Christoffer Bodegård. If you are a fan of tabletop RPGs and want a DnD style medieval fantasy spinoff of Disco Elysium, this game is looking like your thing.
.45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND

TBA
Square Enix really blew everyone’s mind with Parasite Eve, inventing sci-fi survival horror with turn-based style combat that was very unique. But then they also proceeded to completely deviate from the style of the franchise and completely forgot about it.
Well, Sukeban Games seems to have our backs. They are currently working on .45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND; it’s something that resembles a spiritual successor to the title. You may remember them for the incredible cyberpunk visual novel VA-11 Hall-A.
.45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND does not have a release date yet, but the initial reception from the trailers has already brought in a lot of fans with high anticipation.
Demon Tides

February 19, 2026
Nintendo is pretty much the master of 3D platforming games. Other big shots like the PlayStation have tried to take a jab at it through various series such as Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank games, but none of them really prevailed.
Times are changing, and we are currently living in an era where video game development tools are easily available. So indie game devs have taken it on themselves to craft the perfect platformers that will not remain in console monopoly any longer.
This brings us to Demon Tides, which is almost close to its release date. Created by a single indie dev, Fabraz, this game takes inspiration from Mario games and elevates 3D platforming to unimaginable levels of fables.
ABYSS X ZERO

TBA
If you have been missing the PlayStation era of early 3D games that attempted cellshading. Especially games such as Megaman Legends. Then ABYSS X ZERO is a game that you should be looking out for.
This is a gorgeous action-adventure title that is in development at Studio Pixel Punk. The initial gameplay trailers give away some idea of how ambitious the project is going to be, as it seeks to take inspiration from the likes of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and other popular titles.
This is not going to be Studio Pixel Punk’s first venture into game development, as they already have an incredible pixel-art action game in their repertoire, Unsightted, which is available on modern platforms.
Mariachi Legends

Q2 2026
2D Metroidvanias are definitely one of the most popular genres among all of indie games out there right now, and we are really nearing the end of this list without a single 2D side-scrolling title yet, so let’s change that.
Mariachi Legends looks like it is going to be the most gorgeous-looking 2D game with some incredible sprite work, releasing later this year. It’s set in the heart of Mexican culture, with a protagonist who is able to transform into the mighty La Sombra.
Tenebris Somnia

TBA
This one is definitely going to be the most unique game out of all of the incredible titles on this list, simply because of its design. Tenebris Somnia is a narrative-based survival horror game that looks like something out of the MS-DOS era adventure games.
But the more you continue playing, you start to realize there are actual live-action cutscenes that the game uses in a brilliant manner. The player is thrown into a puzzle-solving threat surrounding eldritch horror that starts to haunt them once they reach a certain part of the game.
The game is set to release this year, and a demo is currently available that you can try out to immersive yourself.
MIO: Memories in Orbit

January 20, 2026
With so many metroidvanias releasing these days, we just had to fit in one on our list, and it’s a gorgeous one. Mio: Memories in Orbit is a sci-fi fantasy side-scrolling action game with the usual Metroidvania fair of level designs.
Developed by Douze Dixièmes, you step into the shoes of an automaton exploring the world of Vessels. You move across levels, saving its various residents and forming bonds, all while fending off oblivion. Mio: Memories in Orbit is set to release pretty soon, so you’d better mark your calendars.
