How to become a vampire with Skyrim Console Commands

Console commands might be the easiest way to become a Vampire in Skyrim. Normally, you would have to delve into a damp vampire lair in some hidden corner of this vast open-world game, draw a vampire into open combat, come out unscathed, and cross your fingers that you contract Sanguinare Vampiris – a multistage disease that turns you into a bloodsucker.

There are essentially two types of Vampirism you can get in this role-playing game. The first, as just described, turns you into a regular fledgling Vampire with the basic kit of vampiric magic, buffs, and debuffs.

Turning into a full-fledged Vampire Lord is a different tale. To get this, you have to hit at least level 10 to gain access to the Dawnguard questline. Then you have to follow this questline up to the Volkihar castle, where big boss Lord Harkon himself imparts the form of the Vampire Lord unto the Dragonborn.

Thanks to the completely lore-appropriate power of the console menu, though, you can get either form in a jiffy. This guide will cover console commands to become a Vampire in Skyrim – both the regular one and the Vampire Lord form. Plus, if you want to be a Werewolf and a Vampire Lord at the same time, console commands are the only way to do it.

Note that these console commands only work the PC versions (Classic, Special Edition, and Anniversary Edition). Our apologies to console players.

Console Commands to become a regular Vampire in Skyrim

Setrace Command

There are different console commands you can use to turn into a Vampire in Skyrim. The first is a simple ‘setrace’ command that changes you into a vampire variant of a race. For example, if your Dragonborn is a Nord, you can open you console (~) and enter

Player.setrace nordracevampire

For a High Elf, this would be

Player.setrace highelfracevampire

Although this is an immediate way to turn into a vampire, it has compatibility drawbacks:

  • It may bug out your other racial stats and permanent buffs.
  • It will default back to a different character appearance preset. If you have character visual mods, it may also result in the grey face bug.
  • You will not obtain all the Vampiric buffs and spells, and mod-added effects may not work if you have Vampirism-related mods installed.

Sanguinare Vampiris Command

The more bug-free way to get vampirism with console commands is through the disease. To contract Sanguinare Vampiris, open up your console and enter

  • player.addspell b8780

This will give you the disease and treat it as a fresh infection. In other words, you now need to wait three days for the infection to mutate into proper vampirism. You can do this by simply waiting it out for three days manually, or by increasing the timescale with

  • set timescale to 5000

A timely notification will let you know your Vampiric powers have now awakened on the third day. At this point, if you used console commands to change timescale, set it back to normal with

  • set timescale to 40

You will know that the operation has been successful if you get the Vampiric Drain magic in your repertoire.

Console Commands to become a Vampire Lord in Skyrim

Skyrim Vampire Lord console command

To become a Vampire Lord in Skyrim, you have to first enter the following console command:

  • player.addspell 300283b

This only gives you the ability to use the Vampire Lord form, which can be accessed from ‘Powers’ in the Magic Menu. To also obtain the Blood Magic spells you get in Vampire Lord form, you have to enter

  • player.addspell 301462a

Note that this method grants the Vampire Lord form as well as the Blood Magic spells, leaving your human form intact. If you also want the Vampiric buffs and debuffs, you have to enter the Vampire Lord console commands as well as the previously mentioned console commands for regular Vampirism.

Can you remove Vampirism through Console Commands?

Yes, you can! Curing Vampirism is surprisingly simple – all you have to do is take a filled Black Soul Gem to Falion in Morthal. It’s not simpler than using console commands, though.

To cure vampirism, you have to open the console and enter

  • setstage eafd5 10

Another way is to simply open up the race menu through ‘showracemenu’, but doing it this way is more prone to bugs in the long run.

That’s all about vampirism-related Skyrim console commands. Need a break from your maleficent Vampire playthrough? You can check out some of the best JRPGs to try in 2024, or what’s going on in the world of Persona 3 Reloaded.
