The only way to unlock new Descendants in The First Descendant is by using Amorphous Materials in the game. This is one of the most coveted resources that the game has to offer, but can be difficult to find.
Once you’ve found Amorphous Materials, you will have to open them if you want to see what’s inside. So, here’s everything you need to know about it.
How to get Amorphous Materials in The First Descendant
Amorphous Materials drop as rewards for completing Void Intercept battles and specific missions in the game. You can hover over a mission to see what rewards they drop and plan your approach to them accordingly.
The missions that drop this consumable are:
- Special Operations
- Zone Recon Missions
- Resource Defence Missions
- Void Intercepts
- Mine Blocking
Once you’ve acquired the item, you need to unlock them to extract whatever’s contained inside.

How to open Amorphous Material
To open Amorphous Materials you will need a Reconstructed Device in The First Descendant. This device drops from Void Interceptor Battles or Void Fusion Reactor missions.
You can easily launch the Void Intercepts from the main map screen, but the Fusion Reactor missions can be found once you zoom into a sector map only. However, to start the latter, you will have to destroy void fragments with their matching affinity.

Considering that this is the only way to unlock Descendants in the game, here’s how you can figure out which mission drops the Amorphous Material that you’re looking for:
- Visit Magister Anais at Albion
- Select Research Request
- Then choose Descendant
- Pick your Descendant of choice
- Examine their parts and check the blueprints for each one to see which Amorphous Material can drop them.
Now that you know which mission you need to farm, you can be on your way to farming the Amorphous Material for the Descendant that you want to unlock in the game.
