The currently ongoing Pokemon Go Steeled Resolve Timed Research offers a total of two branches to pick from. The choices include either Blanche or Cliff, and while the tasks on offer are exactly identical, the outcomes are vastly different.
This particular research is free, starting today, and extending for approximately 5 days. Players may be confused as to which is the better path to pick. As such, differences between the two paths, along with an overall winner can be found discussed below.
When does the Pokemon Go Steeled Resolve Tmed Research begin and end?
This particular Pokemon Go event begins at 10 AM local time, on January 21, 2025. The event ends at 8 PM local time on January 26, 2025 after which it will no longer remain accessible.
Differences in rewards between the two paths
Interestingly, the first half of the event features the same quests and rewards – which involves catching Pokemon, spinning PokeStops/Gyms and exploring a total of 2 kilometers. Rewards include EXP, Ultra Balls, Stardust and specific encounters.
Past this section though, you will be tasked with choosing between Blanche or Cliff.
Blanche’s path rewards you with a Marill and Steelix encounter, while Cliff’s path rewards you with a Shadow Machop and Kanto Marowak encounter instead.

What path should you pick?
Most players should be better off choosing Cliff’s encounter in the Pokemon Go Steeled Resolve Timed Research event, given that the fromer’s Pokemon on offer (that is, Shadow Machop and Kanto Marowak) are a lot harder to encounter in-game.
Shadow Machop in particular is a lot harder to encounter, as players will ordinarily have to grind through Fighting-type Grunts for a chance to come close to it.
On the other hand, Marill and Onix (Steelix’s prior form) can be easily encountered using the Magnetic Lure Module.
