Residents of the US were hit with a rude awakening as they faced immediate restriction on the access (and thereby usage) of apps and games such as TikTok and Marvel Snap. The move comes as a consequence of a law passed in Congress sometime last year.
The move is expected to affect over 170 million American citizens, effectively locking them out of the platform for an unknown period of time. More on the situation and other affected platforms below.
President Trump reverses ban on TikTok and Marvel Snap

Interestingly, it would now appear that the US’s restrictions on TikTok is simply not limited to the viral social media app – it also extends into the parent company of the service, ByteDance. As a consequence, this has resulted in the mass blocking of certain games and apps owned by the company – such as Marvel Snap.
Users attempting to log into these apps will be met by a message that reads,
‘A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!’
According to a recent report from CNN, President Trump plans to sign an executive order that sets the ‘ban’ back by 90 days. Prior President Joe Biden has left matters into Trump’s hands, mentioning that he would not enforce said ban on his last day at office.
Both parties seem to have agreed to work together for a long-term solution that allows the app to be used in the United States, although an exact time frame for the process is yet to be disclosed.
TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew had recently praised Trump for his stand against ‘arbitary censorship’, which can still be viewed on the viral social media platform. As such, these restrictions are expected to be removed sooner or later.
