League of Legends best Twisted Fate build guide: Runes, Itemization, Strategy, and more

With the recent changes to his AD scaling the best Twisted Fate build paths offer a lot of playstyle versatility in League of Legends. While his AP TF is the more traditional way of playing the Card Master, many on-hit AD builds have also been taking over solo queue.

Players have been flexing him as an ADC and a Top Laner to various degrees of success. He is an incredibly effective side lane threat who can demolish towers if left unchecked.

TF’s ultimate makes him quite slippery and hard to catch even if he over-extends. It’s his get-out-of-jail card that can not only get him out of a bind but also gain a numbers advantage in cross-map plays.

Twisted Fate’s build versatility helps him to have a very high pick and ban rate. He is one of the best champions that will help you climb the rank ladder if you main Top, Mid, or even Bot.

Twisted Fate Pros and Cons in League of Legends Season 14

Pros:

AP Twisted Fate:

  • With his AP build, Twisted Fate scales incredibly well in Riot’s MOBA. He keeps getting more powerful the longer the game goes. After he starts getting his power spikes, he can hundred-to-zero most squishy targets while chipping away at the enemy frontline.
  • He is a very strong split pusher and can threaten tower damage when left unchecked. This forces the enemy to react to his push making it easier for your team to set up for neutral objectives.
  • AP TF is one of the more reliable MId Lane picks in Low Elo. Players at that rank don’t know how to effectively play into him, which makes sure that you will get away with most things.

AD Twisted Fate:

  • Twisted Fate’s AD build for both ADC and Top is incredibly strong in the early game. He reaches his power spikes much faster than the enemy team allowing him to snowball off early advantages.
  • The AD scaling along with Demolish lets him melt through towers. Much of his game plan will be to sit in the side lanes and be annoying with his push. However, if there is a fight happening on another part of the map, he can just use Destiny to join the rest of his team.
  • AD TF has a high solo carry potential. The amount of sustain damage Twisted Fate gets from his AD build makes him snowball games and will often make your enemies surrender at 15.

Cons:

AP Twisted Fate:

  • AP TF has a very weak early game. He struggles quite a bit in the lane and will often be pushed back into the tower if he is against an aggressive laner. It takes him a while to start hitting his power spikes and have an impact in skirmishes.
  • His lack of mobility also makes him susceptible to ganks during the laning phase. He is squishy too before the Rod of Ages gets stacked, so he can easily burst down if he is caught by enemy CC.
  • AP TF is not as effective in higher Elos. Players know how to counter his roam and split push which takes away a lot of agency from his kit. Unless you are playing with a pre-made squad, you are not likely to have a good time with him in ranks above Gold.

AD Twisted Fate

  • Even with the best AD build, Twisted Fate will fall off very hard in the Late Game. he will get out-ranged and out-DPS-ed by most traditional ADCs. He is very bad at taking down tanky frontlines, which makes him a very poor choice against comps that build a lot of armor.
  • AD TF also struggles against control mages. Syndra, Orianna, and Azir will just keep countering him the later the game goes, forcing him to stick to the side lanes and not look for proactive plays across the map.
  • Unlike his AP build, AD Twisted Fate has a hard time coming back from a Gold deficit. If he is made to fall behind hard early, he will struggle quite a bit in the Mid Game.

How to play Twisted Fate: Tips and Tricks for League of Legends Season 14

Twisted Fate Gameplay Guide

Early Game:

  • AP Twisted Fate: If you are going for the AP playstyle, your goal in the laning phase will be to keep yourself relevant in farm and XP. TF’s passive lets him gain a lot of additional gold, which will naturally start giving you an economy advantage the more minions you last hit. Only get aggressive with your Gold cards if you have the help of your jungler.
  • AD Twisted Fate: With his AD playstyle, you will need to start pushing for advantages early on. TF gets amazing at pushing in the lane once he gets some AD under his belt, so look to secure plates or roam.

Mid Game:

  • AP Twisted Fate: The Mid Game is all about wave management and if you are being able to roam without losing any gold. Have the wave state in such a way that it will let you use Destiny to make plays in other lanes. Always look to roam once you get two items.
  • AD Twisted Fate: The Mid Game is where AD Twisted Fate is at its strongest. You will be able to melt through towers at this point, hunger-to-zero squishies, make cross-map plays and secure neutral objectives with your jungler. So make the most of his early spikes and look to close out the game as soon as possible.

Late Game:

  • AP Twisted Fate: During the Late Game your goal as AP TF will be to be annoying with your Gold cards in teamfights. You can either look to catch out squishies or keep spamming Wild Card to chip out at the enemy front line. This will make it significantly easier for your team to engage with them. Additionally, don’t hesitate to use Destiny to gain vision of enemy positioning. If there aren’t enough wards on the map, Destiny can help spot out a flank or an objective steal.
  • AD Twisted Fate: AD TF struggles in the Late Game. While he can be effective in fights, he is not going to have the same impact as that of a traditional ADC. So sticking to the side lanes and taking down towers is usually the right strategy with him. However, if a game-ending fight does break out, make sure you kite around the skirmish and not get caught out by the enemy CC.
