Best Monster Hunter Wilds settings for the ROG Ally

Monster Hunter Wilds is finally out, for both PC and consoles, and brings with it a rather deceptively simple list of PC system requirements. Indeed, Wilds is incredibly hard to run on PC, largely thanks to its open world nature and a poorly optimized port.

This makes it near impossible to run on handhelds such as the Steam Deck, but more powerful alternatives such as the ROG Ally and Legion Go do fare a bit better, but not by much.

As such, a list of the optimized Monster Hunter Wilds PC settings for the ROG Ally can be found detailed in the sections below.

ROG Ally specific settings

  • Operating Mode: Turbo (25/30 W)
  • Control Mode: Gamepad
  • AMD RSR: Off
  • CPU Boost: Disabled
  • Resolution: Keep at 1080p
  • AMD RIS: On
  • FPS Limiter: Disable to take advantage of VRR
  • AFMF: Disabled; best to leave disabled since it causes additional latency
  • Recommended VRAM: 6 to 8 GB – 8 GB is recommended for the ROG Ally X while those with the original Ally should stick to 6 GB.
  • Battery Life: Expect under an hour for the og ROG Ally. Those with the Ally X can expect around 2 hours instead.

With the presets listed above, expect around 40-60 FPS during gameplay. Frame Generation is a must, without which the game can often tank below 30 FPS. However, framegen isn’t a magical solution, and it results in visible artifacting and latency.

It is hoped that Capcom manages to sort their optimization woes quickly and get Wilds up and running in a decent state for PCs.
