Best Runescape Dragonwilds settings for the ROG Ally

Runescape Dragonwilds is for the most part, a strangely optimized game – and does not demand much in terms of PC system requirements. Indeed, the game only mandates 8 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GTX 1060 to be able to run it, but can be puzzlingly janky at times.

The game runs decently on handheld PCs for the most part, such as on the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Regardless, there do exist a few optimized settings that can ensure a more stable framerate – which will be discussed below.

Optimized Runescape Dragonwilds PC settings for the ROG Ally

Runescape Dragonwilds PC

In-game settings

  • Quality: Medium; Medium is plenty fine for handheld devices – thanks to their smaller displays
  • Frame Rate Limit: 60; cap the game to 60 FPS and save battery life – or push it to 120 at its expense
  • Resolution: 1600×900; lower than the usual 1080p resolution
  • Upscaling Mode: AMD FSR; AMD’s FSR tech is the only option here
  • Display Mode: Fullscreen, keep at this default value
  • Sharpness: 4; user preference
  • Frame Generation: Off; best to keep disabled to prevent additional latency
  • VSync: Off; always keep disabled
  • Sprint Mode (Gameplay): Off; user preference

ROG Ally specific settings

  • Operating Mode: Turbo (25 W)
  • Control Mode: Gamepad
  • AMD RSR: On
  • CPU Boost: Disabled
  • Resolution: 900p
  • AMD RIS: Off
  • FPS Limiter: Disable to take advantage of VRR
  • AFMF: Disabled; best to leave disabled since it causes additional latency
  • Recommended VRAM: 6 to 8 GB – 8 GB is recommended for the ROG Ally X while those with the original Ally should stick to 6 GB. Auto is recommended for those using Bazzite or similar SteamOS-like distributions such as CachyOS.

The combination of settings above should allow for 40 to 60 frames per second during gameplay. Runescape Dragonwilds is still in early access, and as such exhibits some strange performance issues – which means you will not get a smooth 60 FPS all the time.

It is hoped that these performance issues will be fixed over time.
