You can play Death Stranding 2 on the Steam Deck, but there’s a catch

Death Stranding 2 is finally out, and is the second chapter in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding series. The game has been universally acclaimed and is currently a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with a probable PC release sometime in the near future.

This means that no PCs can currently play Death Stranding 2 natively, including the likes of the Steam Deck. However, we can always stream our PS5 to the Deck, and play through the entirety of the game.

How to play Death Stranding 2 on the Steam Deck

Before we start, a couple of things must be kept in mind. For starters, you will require a decently fast internet connection. to stream the game to your device – especially if you are not connected to the same local network.

Second, as we are going to be streaming the game, we could face some (rather minor) latency. To alleviate this, try tinkering with the network connection settings.

And finally, this procedure will require slight technical knowledge and know-how. With that in mind, here’s how to play Death Stranding 2 on the Steam Deck:

• Boot up your Steam Deck, and head to the System menu.
• From here, enable Developer Mode.
• Within the Developer menu, enable CEF Debugging.
• Press the Steam button, and select the Power menu, from where you have to select the ‘Switch to Desktop Mode’ shortcut. You might require a keyboard and mouse for the next step.
• Once within Desktop Mode, head over to the Discover Store. The Discover Store can be identified by an icon that resembles a shopping bag.
• Search ‘Chiaki’, and hit enter. 
• Install Chiaki4Deck from the populated list.
• Next, turn on your PS5, and head to the Settings menu.
• Head to System > Remote Play and hit Enable Remote Play.
• Now, head back to your Steam Deck, and launch the Chiaki4Deck app.
• Assuming your PS5 is on, it should automatically detect it (if both devices are on the same network).
• Fire up a web browser, and head on over to this particular URL.
• Enter your PSN username (case-sensitive!) and hit the Submit button.
• Copy the generated Encoded ID and head back to Chiaki4Deck.
• Paste the code into the PSN Account ID box within the Chiaki app.
• Finally, head on over to your PS5’s Remote Play screen – and select Link Device to generate a temporary pin.
• Enter the PIN as is, without any spaces. Hit the OK button and wait for the connection to be established.

This should let you stream Death Stranding 2 to your Steam Deck. Make sure to add Chiaki4Deck to Gaming Mode for easier access.
