Everything we know about the RTX 5080 so far

Nvidia’s RTX 5000 GPU series is expected to make its debut sometime early next year, and should include the 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 series. As always, expect the pricier, high-end tech to be released first – including the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090.

There has been a ton of information leaked already (most of which has pointed to rather disappointingly low amounts of VRAM and performance improvements).

A breakdown of the upcoming RTX 5080 – detailing its expected price, specs and more can be found below.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 specifications (leaked)

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080
SpecValue
GPU ChipsetGB203
Peak TDP400 W
VRAM16 or 24 GB variants
CUDA Core Count10752
VRAM TypeGDDR7; 256-bit bus
PCIe Version5.0

Based on the leaked specifications above, the RTX 5080 is shaping up to be a real beast in terms of performance and value per dollar. Coupled with GDDR7 memory and PCIe 5.0 connectivity, the theoretical performance of the card should be quite enough for gaming, especially in ray tracing scenarios.

While the 16/24 GB VRAM count is nice to see, the reuse of a 256-bit bus and an eye watering 400 W peak power consumption might make it less than ideal for some – as will its probable price.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 expected launch date

The RTX 5080 should be revealed sometime in 2025, specifically during CES 2025. Nvidia’s Jensen Huang has already been confirmed to make an appearance during the event, at approximately 6:30 PM PT on January 6, 2025.

The big RTX 5000 series reveal should arrive on that date, as will an estimate on its actual availability – which is projected to be sometime early February 2025.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 expected price

Based on recent leaks via an online Chinese retailer, Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5080 should cost around $1,370, with 13% sales tax factored into it. Without the sales tax, the card should cost close to the $1,000 price mark – which is quite expensive.

As always, given that the information above comes courtesy of leaks, make sure to take them with a grain of salt.
