Best Final Fantasy 16 ROG Ally settings

Final Fantasy 16 is finally out for PCs, and the system requirements seem to be rather steep. This newer, non-remake mainline Final Fantasy entry thankfully scales down to less powerful hardware, allowing for devices such as the ROG Ally to somewhat play it.

It does require a fair bit of tweaking to get up and running though, and the best Final fantasy 16 settings for the ROG Ally can be found detailed below.

ROG Ally specific settings

  • Operating Mode: Turbo (25 W)/ Manual (18 W)
  • Control Mode: Gamepad
  • AMD RSR: Off
  • CPU Boost: Disabled
  • Resolution: Keep this unchanged
  • AMD RIS: On
  • FPS Limiter: Disabled to take advantage of VRR
  • AFMF 2: Enabled
  • Recommended VRAM: 7-8 GB

The Turbo preset (25 W unplugged/30 W plugged in) may fare better in terms of performance. Final Fantasy 16 is not an easy game to run, and has a rather peculiar symptom where the in-game cinematics slow down to a crawl (with an average of 20 FPS) on these handheld devices.

Expect average frame rates between 40 to 60 FPS in-game. The original ROG Ally should last around an hour on battery – with the upgraded Ally X lasting twice as long.

Further optimizations and updates from Square Enix are likely necessary to get the game running better.
