In a surprise announcement, both Apple and Google announced a way to seamlessly transfer playlists between their individual music streaming services. This move is quite welcome, and should help listeners share their favorite tracks with each other – and even migrate from one platform to the other with relative ease.

How to transfer your Apple Music playlist to YouTube Music
- Sign in to your Apple account’s Data and Privacy page.
- Choose the ‘Transfer a copy of your data’ option.
- Follow the instructions that pop up on your screen to continue. Keep in mind that you must have active Apple Music and YouTube Music accounts.
A mail will be sent to your registered Apple ID informing you of the transfer. These playlists can be accessed via the Library tab of YouTube Music, and your original collection will remain unaltered.
How to transfer your YouTube playlist to Apple Music
- Head to the Dashboard of your Google Account.
- Head to the ‘Recently used Google services’ tab and scroll down to ‘YouTube’.
- Click on ‘Transfer Data’.
- Choose the playlists you wish to copy, and hit Continue.
- Authorize the Google Takeout process by signing into your account.
- Click on ‘Agree and continue’ to begin transferring data.
- Select ‘Apple Music’ from the list and sign in using your Apple ID.
- When prompted, click on ‘Allow’ to give Google permission to sync its playlists with Apple Music.
Once completed, an email will be sent to your registered Google account to inform you of the transfer.
Keep in mind that either method involves a one-time transfer. Updating a playlists on one platform will require you to manually synchronize its copy on the other platform. Additionally, only personal playlists (without the addition of podcasts, private audio files and audio books) are supported as of the time of writing this article – with no option of copying over offline music data.
