When are the XDefiant servers shutting down?

In a rather unfortunate turn of events, Ubisoft recently announced the end of service for XDefiant less than a year from its launch in May 2024. The message was broadcast via multiple social media channels, detailing future plans before the game’s ultimate closure.

You can find a breakdown of the FPS‘s situation, including possible eligibility for refunds below.

When do the XDefiant servers close?

XDefiant

The XDefiant servers will permanently close on June 3, 2025 – after which the live service title will remain entirely inaccessible.

Starting today, December 3, 2024 XDefiant will no longer accept any new downloads or player registrations, which is a bit disheartening for those wishing to try out the first person shooter one last time amidst the news of its sunset.

XDefiant refunds and refund eligibility

  • All players will receive a refund for the Ultimate Founders pack, if they had purchased it.
  • Additionally, all VC and DLC purchases made past November 3, 2024 will also be refunded in their entirety.
  • However, both the Founder’s Pack and Founder’s Pack Elite bundles will not be refunded.

Refunds may take up to 8 weeks to complete. You can however, use your remaining XCoins to purchase any items if needed.

End of service plans and Season 3 content

In ‘A Message to Our Community’, Ubisoft’s Mark Rubin confirmed the same as stated above, and detailed future plans – until the end of service.

For starters, those who already have XDefiant in their game libraries can still play it for now as the servers will remain active for a while.

Season 3 content will not be scrapped though, and will be released at a later date – for all players to access. An exact date is yet to be provided.

XDefiant reportedly did not achieve the profit margins to keep it sustainable as a free to play title, which is why Ubisoft and the dev team ultimately decided to pull the plug. Free to play games are always a risky investment, and in this case things did not pan out well enough.
