Marvel Rivals is a new entry in the free-to-play live-service games market that already contains the likes of Overwatch 2, Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends, and more.
Early impressions reveal Marvel Rivals as an Overwatch-style shooter with Marvel heroes. While the gameplay itself looks solid, how the developers monetize things like currencies and the Battle Pass in their F2P title is a concern among many.
So, here’s everything to know about the monetization in Marvel Rivals, including a rundown of all its currencies and the Battle Pass’ functioning.

All currencies in Marvel Rivals & how to get them
Primarily, there are two currencies in Marvel Rivals called:
- Lattice – This is the golden currency that you can purchase directly through money. $0.99 will grant you 100 Lattice while the top-tier price is $99.99 for 11, 680 Lattice. Although the Battle Pass can grant you Lattice, the main way to obtain this currency is spending real money.
- Units – This is the blue currency rewarded for free through Battle Pass, events, and Achievements. You can also exchange it with Lattice at a 1:1 ratio.

Skin pricing in Marvel Rivals
The official blog post by the devs has given us a rough idea of how cosmetics, the only paid element of Marvel Rivals, will be priced:
- Standard Epic-Quality bundle – 1600 Units (The bundle will contain items worth 2200 Units, implying you get a 28% discount through it)
- Standard Epic-Quality MCU bundle – 1800 Units (Contains items worth 2400 Units, granting a 25% discount)
- Standard Legendary-Quality bundle – 2400 Units (Contains items worth 3300 Units, granting a 28% discount)
Simple math suggests that a standard epic-quality bundle in Marvel Rivals should cost you around $16. Such a cosmetic bundle would generally include five items such as the skin, an animation, an emote, a spray, and a nameplate.
Battle Pass price and functioning
Season 0 in Marvel Rivals will be shorter than the next seasons, so the developers have priced the Luxury Battle Pass at 490 Lattices. From Season 1, you can expect the price to increase to 980 Lattices; double the items will also be offered.
The Season 0 Luxury Battle Pass has five costumes and related cosmetics that have a total value of 8000 Units. Unlike most other titles, these items are not time-locked, so can you unlock them later even if you don’t complete the Battle Pass in Season 0.

Completing tasks and events will help you earn Battle Pass tokens, called Chrono Tokens. These tokens aren’t a currency technically, but you can redeem items through them.
Do note that the Battle Pass in Marvel Rivals will grant an epic-quality skin and related cosmetics even if you don’t purchase the Luxury version. Achievements and events will also provide you with Units and a wide range of free skins like the Iron Man Armor Model 42.
Long story short, Marvel Rivals is monetized quite like other games in the market with a few refreshing tweaks. How this sits with the player base will be revealed once the title is released on December 6, 2024.
