Monster Hunter Wilds complete Mantle Guide

Mantles will make your hunts considerably easier in Monster Hunter Wilds. From improving your overall survivability to providing other buffs and effects, they are a key part of progression and you will need to learn how to use each of them.

There are currently five Mantles that you will be able to unlock in the RPG, and each of these tools will help you have an easier time with the hunts, especially if you are new to the game.

All Mantes, their effects, and how to unlock them in Monster Hunter Wilds

As mentioned, there are currently 5 Mantles, in Monster Hunter Wilds, here is a list of them all along with their effects and how you can unlock them:

Ghillie MantleWhen you put on the Ghillie Mantle you will be concealed from the monster allowing you to get a sneak attack off on them when they are unsuspecting.Unlocked by default and you will get you from the very start of the game.
Rocksteady MantleThe Rocksteady Mantle will let you negate all damage interactions while you have it on. It will prevent the following effects on your hunter:

・Knockbacks
・Wind effects
・Tremor
・Stuns
・Roar effects

You will also take lesser damage from attacks. However, the mantle will not completely negate damage. You can till cart while having it on.
You will unlock the Rocksteady Mantle after beating the Black Flame during the LR story quest. Once the Flame is down, you will then need to head over to the Windward Plains base camp and speak to Gemma. She will then unlock the Mantle and give you Shockproof Jewel.
Mending MantleThe Mending Mantle will heal your hunter to full HP after a brief delay.The Mending Mantle is unlocked after you beat Xu Wu in the Ruins of Wyveria. Once the hunt is complete, you will need to talk to Gemma back at the base camp and she will give you the tool.
Evasion MantleWith the Evasion Mantle, you will get to increase your I-frames significantly when dodging and evading monster attacks. Moreover, you will get a slight attack boost if you dodge a monster’s attack at the very last minute.You will be able to unlock the Evasion Mantle after you have completed LR and have made your way to the Wounded Hollow to beat the Frenzied Narscylla.
Corrupted MantleWhen equipped, the mantle will decrease your health but will increase your overall weapon affinity and performance.
Repeated attacks on monsters will also keep improving your attack power and affinity.
To get the Corrupted Mantle you will need to beat the HR Gore Magala and then speak to Gemma.

What is the best Mantle in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The best Mantle for you in Monster Hunter Wilds will depend on the weapon and build that you are going for. If you like using heavy melee weapons like the hammer and the great sword, then the Rocksteady and the Mending Mantle will be the go-to option.

For Bow and Dual Blades. the Evasion Mantle will be the best choice, as it will give you a much-needed DPS boost every time you are perfectly dodging the monster.

However, if you are a veteran, and are very confident about your skills then the Corrupted Mantle might fit you the best. If you are sure about your dodging and DPS uptime, then this Mantle will significantly decrease your overall hunt time.

How to equip Mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds

After you have unlocked a Mantle and have it in your inventory you will be able to equip it by picking it from your item bar. You can do this, by Holding L1 and then tapping Square or Circle on the PS, and then tapping Square to equip the Mantle once it comes up on the bar. On the Xbox, you do it by holding LB tapping X or Y, and then hitting X to equip it.

Alternatively, you can also add a Mantle to your Radial dial menu and then equip it as soon as it’s up by tapping L1/LB and then using your analog and shortcut buttons.

How to change Mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds

Once you have multiple Mantles unlocked, you will be able to change them by making your way to the tent in either the Base Camp or the Pop-up camp. Here you will need to scroll to the Equipment Menu tab and then select Change Equipment, here you will need to pick the Mantle that you want for your next hunt.

How to add Mantels to your Radial Menu in Monster Hunter Wilds

If you wish to quickly equip your Mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds, you might want to add them to your Radial Menu. This will prevent you from wasting time by scrolling and selecting them from the items bar. You can add a mantle to your Radial menu by:

  • Making your way into the tent and then heading to the Item Menu.
  • Here you will need to select Customize Radial Menu and pick one of the Radial Menu Shortcuts.
  • Finally, select the position you wish to put the Mantle in, then scroll to Essential Items, and then select the Equipped Mantles option to place the Mantle that you have in your inventory on to your Radial Menu.

Now, every time you change your Mantle, it will automatically reflect on the Radial Menu. make sure to play around with the Mantles to pick the one that fits you the best.
