Deadlock’s 1950’s noir setting provides the perfect platform for some incredible super villain lore, and that is exactly where Seven comes in, as one of the most wanted criminals.
For some unknown reason, Seven willingly got himself locked up in the deadliest facility of Deadlock, known as Lost Whisper. It’s a prison dungeon where the world’s most heinous occultists are held captive.
Seven then managed to go on to murder all of his captors, and this was right before his execution. Now finally free from the hellhole, the occultist has let himself loose right in time for the summoning ritual.

Contrary to what you might think, even with all the killings, Seven isn’t exactly a psychopath; he does not find glee in murder and mayhem. However, he doesn’t shy away from committing it, and he does seem to enjoy putting the fear of god into the minds of his enemies and victims.
Seven wishes to achieve godhood
He is participating in the ritual to fulfill his own motivation, as Seven wishes to reach apotheosis. Meaning he wants to ascend to the higher level of existence, similar to the patrons, and possibly achieve godhood.
You can clearly tell how much he is inspired by villains in popular media, as if straight out of some manga or comic book panel.
Seven’s criminal background is emphasised further through his in-game design. Although he is supposed to be getting a rework, you can clearly notice the remains of tattered prison clothing all over his outfit.

And unfortunately, there’s not really a superhero around who can go toe to toe with this villain. Maybe that’s a character idea for another time, and we’ll leave that up to Valve.
One fun fact about Seven is that he can speak the Ixian language; we can hear it in his voice lines if he gains victory over Apollo’s death, so there is a fair bit of conjecture that he might have picked it up during his time in Lost Whisper, which is said to have a lot of Ixian convicts.
