After a very delightful State of Play, Sony suddenly seems to have taken the most astonishing decision of the year, which is to close down the Blue Point studio, thus stepping on any hopes for a Bloodborne remake.
The gaming industry has been rampant with studios closing down and layoffs happening everywhere. Just a few days back, gamers got bombarded with the unfortunate news of layoffs at Riot Games after the development of 2XKO, and also Highguard studio layoffs recently.
This news comes from a Bloomberg report that let everyone know about the layoff of a sizable team from the studio. To add more to this wound, a 3D modeler has come out on social media to address how Sony shut down his Bloodborne remake project in 2024.
A Bloodborne fan game that was shut down by Sony
The Twitter/X user @MaximFoulquier made the decision to post his story on the platform after seeing the news about Bluepoint Studios shutting down. The user’s Bloodborne remake project had been shut down multiple times, according to the post.
Having received the cease and desist letter from Sony, he was delighted. “Okay… I expected this might happen. Maybe it’s because a real Bloodborne remake is actually in development, with Bluepoint leading it for the PS6 launch?” He said on the platform.

With the new developments, he says that his “disappointment is immense,” and he needed to talk about this as soon as possible. He had reportedly planned to repurpose the remake’s assets into his own Bloodborne-inspired game and wanted to announce it once an official remake was revealed.
For those outside the Sony console sphere, Blue Point Studio was an important American video game developer known for some of the company’s exclusive remakes. Games such as Shadows of the Colossus remake for PS4 and Demon’s Souls remake for PS5 were some that were really famous.
Sony had formally acquired the studio in 2021. Blue Point had not made any new video games since the acquisition. Unsurprisingly, this is not the only Sony-acquired studio that they shut down in recent years, which made fans angry.
Online reactions over the situation have been mixed
Social media reactions to the situation have been mixed, with anger, disappointment, and people mocking the studio as well as its fans. More fans were angry at the fact that Sony had deliberately taken steps to shut down a fan project on the IP.
Well, the rest of the bunch who never really liked Blue Point’s style of game remakes are secretly enjoying the loss of jobs. The Demon’s Souls remake, which was a launch PS5 title, was a massive downgrade in terms of visuals and other aspects, according to a lot of fans.
Now, fans of other Sony-acquired studios fear for their favorite developer getting the axe by the higher-ups. Sony had acquired a bunch of studios in the past few years, including the infamous Bungie.
With Blue Point closing, it becomes the third studio that the company has shut down. Previous closures include Firewalk studio and Neon Koi.
