Monster Hunter Wilds release date, platforms, and all confirmed monsters

Monster Hunter Wilds is the sixth installment in Campom’s mainline monster-hunting series. It recently got a new trailer during the PlayStation State of Play 2024, which confirmed some new monsters along with the flagship of the new franchise entry.

There was a lot to unfold from the trailer, but as it’s still very early days, more information on the RPG will be revealed later this year.

However, below are a few things that Capcom has already revealed which include a release date, platforms, and some large monsters.

Monster Hunter Wilds release date and platforms

Monster Hunter Wilds will officially release on February 28, 2025, and will be making its way to the following platforms:

  • PlayStation 5 and PS5Pro
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • PC (Windows)

There is yet no word on a Nintendo port, however, if there eventually is one, it’s likely going to be for the Switch 2.

All confirmed Large Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds (so far)

For now, the trailers of the open-world RPG have only confirmed a couple of Large Monsters.

1) Doshaguma

Doshaguma Monster Hunter Wilds

Described as “rugged, territorial fanged beasts that exhibit an aggressive disposition” the Doshaguma hunts in packs in Monster Hunter Wilds. They are fanged beasts whose physiology has adapted to the dry sandy Windward Plains that they inhabit.

They will be one of the earliest monsters that you face in the game, and many are likening them to the Great Jagras from MH World.

However, it seems that the Doshaguma is going to be a bit more challenging. They are not going to be punching bags, as they are very aggressive when it comes to their hunts, and as you will need to face a pack of them, they might pose a challenge even for a series veteran.

2) Chatacabra

Chatacabra Monster Hunter Wilds

The Chatacabra is the next monster who will be inhabiting the Windward Plains. However, as they are amphibious in nature, they are likely going to stick to the regions where there is an oasis.

One of Chatacabra’s most unique traits is its long tongue. Not only will it attack you with it, use the tongue to coat its arms with sticky enzymes. This will let it attach rocks to its arms, to deal more damage.

This survival mechanic is likely going to let it deal significantly more damage to your hunter. So much like with the Doshaguma, you might struggle a bit against the Chatacabra in the early game.

3) Rathalos

Rathalos Monster Hunter Wilds

A Monster Hunter game is not complete if it doesn’t have atleast one species of Rathalos in it on launch day. The Wyvern is a staple to all MH titles and has slowly grown to be one of the more popular mascots of the series.

A first glimpse of Rathalos was first shown during the initial trailer of Monster Hunter Wilds at The Game Awards 2023. So series veterans are likely going to be looking for ways of getting their hands on some flash bombs as soon as they start exploring the open world.

4) Balahara

Balahara Monster Hunter Wilds

Balahara is a Leviathan monster in Wilds. It looks awfully like the sandworms that inhabit certain words in science fiction novels. It’s shown to be swimming through the desert creating quicksand everywhere it goes and trapping its prey.

The Balahara has a long serpentine body, which likes to coil around its victims and then choke them to death. They use it in conjunction with the quicksand making it incredibly difficult for other large monsters to escape from its grasp.

5) Lala Barina

Lala Barina Monster Hunter Wilds

Lala Barina is the spider monster making its way to Wilds and will inhabit The Scarlet Forest region of the open world. Lala Barina will have spidery limbs and white fur along with boasting the ability to reveal a deadly blooming rose by just unfurling its thorax.

Its abdomen also contains a retractable stinger which can dart out at enemies. Its front pair of limbs are usually tucked away inside the body, but it can open to give its appendages a claw-like motion.

6) Rey Dau

Rey Dau Monster Hunter Wilds

Rey Dau is the first new apex monster that you will meet in Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s a large bipedal wyvern that is covered in golden scales with small black scales on the back. However, unlike the typical Flying Wyverns of the franchise, Rey Dau’s wings are not made of digits. Its wings are comprised of a single membrane and the tips of the wings have bladed protrusions.

It has large horns spread out on each side of its head, which can then be folded inwards allowing Rey Dau to channel electricity through them.

7) Arkveld (Flagship monster)

Arkveld Monster Hunter Wilds

Arkveld is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s known as the “White Wrath” in the game and was thought to be extinct by the Hunter’s Guild. It has imposing chain-like wings which it uses to hunt down enemies on the field.

Not much has been revealed about the flagship monster so far, and it will be interesting to see just how challenging the flagship will be of the latest franchise entry.

8) Uth Duna

Uth Duna Monster Hunter Wilds

Uth Duna is a Leviathan-type monster who will be the apex hunter of the Scarlet Forest. You will find it when exploring the region’s Inclemency known as the Downpour. The monster is capable of creating waves that crash around it as a way to protect itself.

Based on what’s been revealed so far in the trailers Uth Duna has a lot of hard-hitting AoE skills up its sleeves, and hunters will need to be on their toes to beat it.

9) Quematrice

Quematrice Monster Hunter Wilds

Quematrice is a new Brute Wyvern making its way to Monster Hunter Wilds. You will find this creature inhabiting the Windward Plains. It uses its tail for both offense and defense as it secretes a flammable substance.

The Quematrice can then create sparks with the tips of the tail to light the fluid on fire and create gusts of flames that spew forward. It’s likely that its tail is going to have some of the best hit-zone values for ranged and sever weapons.

10) Rompopolo

Rompopolo Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo is a Brute Wyvern native to the Oilwll Basin in Monster Hunter Wilds. It attacks its prey by poisoning them with its toxic gas which is released from its mouth and tail. This gas is also capable of reacting with the Oilwell Basin’s oil rivers and making them explode.

The explosions will damage your hunter and will chunk them for a fair bit of HP if they are caught up in the blast radius.

11) Congalala

Congalala Monster Hunter Wilds

Congalala is finally making its way back to a mainline Monster Hunter game. Much of its move-sets revolve around swinging its arms to attack you, farting on you, and trying to affect you with its poisonous toxic breath.

The fanged beast excels in inflicting status effects on the hunter and depending on the mushroom that it has ingested the effects of the toxic breath and fart will differ:

  • Poisonschroom (purple): You will take poison damage when affected.
  • Paraschroom (yellow): This toxic gas will paralyze you if you are in the AoE.
  • Nitroschroom (Light red): The breath will be explosive and deal massive amounts of damage to your hunter when they are hit by it. Can also set them on fire.

12) Ajarakan

Ajarakan Monster Hunter Wilds

Ajarakan is a short-tempered fanged beast who uses fire-based attacks. It’s one of the most aggressive monsters in Wilds and will attack anything on sight, even its own kind. It has move sets similar to other monkeys in the franchise and will usually claw, bite, and slam the ground when it starts getting angry.

Ajakaran has a unique mechanic where it sets itself on fire once it reaches a boiling point. The shells on its back brush against each other to create a spark setting its body aflame. It increases his firepower drastically and will start dealing even more damage to you and setting your hunter aflame.

13) The Black Flame

The Black Flame Monster Hunter Wilds

Not much is known about the apex monster of the Oilwell Basin for now. This horrifying beast is yet to have a name as well and is only identified by the moniker that the villagers of Azuz placed on it.

What is revealed so far about it is the fact that “The Black Flame” is larger in size than most monsters that you will face in Wilds. It’s covered in flammable oil and comes with giant tentacles which it uses to choke its prey to death. It can even breathe fire from its mouth.
