10 Anime With the Most Toxic Fanbase

Every anime fanbase can be very toxic. But don’t let this fool you into thinking that it reciprocates to the medium itself. Anime is a global phenomenon and some of the best fiction ever conceived. Spanning genres such as Sports and Cyberpunk. So don’t miss out on them just because a certain fanbase is annoying.

It should also be noted that when we talk about annoying fans, it does not center around the whole fandom. But it’s mostly a certain part of the community that can be very toxic. Outside of that, most anime fans are very welcoming to someone trying to get into the medium.

That said, in the list below, we talk about some of the most toxic anime fanbases one can come across online.

Most Toxic Fanbase in Anime

Dragon Ball fans cannot stop power scaling

There is no doubt that Dragon Ball is one of the most important anime franchises. It helped popularize the medium globally and shaped anime fandoms as we know them today. But that also brought with it its fair share of annoyance.

Dragon Ball was created by Akira Toriyama originally as a gag adventure manga based on Journey to the West. But eventually, the series got big and turned into a shounen anime about godlike cosmic characters fighting each other to death.

This created the annoying idea about powerscaling in anime fanbases and has reached to a point where it is getting toxic. Every cross-discussion about Dragon Ball and other media results in fans bringing up the topic of ‘who can beat who.’ This gets most annoying when the discussion always goes back to Goku vs Superman,

You have to watch 1000+ One Piece episodes

image from One Piece

One Piece is considered one of the most well written shounen anime series of the present generation. Anyone following the show will not tell you otherwise, it is heavily praised in the fandom. But still, it’s normal for some people to not like the show.

Not every anime, movie, or TV show can be for everyone, no matter how well-made or well-written it is. There will always be some people who are unable to get into the particular medium. Which is totally fine, but sometimes some fandoms will treat that as a live-or-die situation.

This is especially relevant in the One Piece fandom. Someone may sit down to watch the show and go through some of the episodes. They might still not get into it, but the toxic fanbase will keep insisting that the show gets better, and the person has to sit through more.

Liking anime is not cool because of the Naruto fandom

It is widely agreed that the hate behind anime fandoms stem from the behavior of Naruto fans. Naruto itself is one of the biggest anime series globally, standing tall with Dragon Ball and One Piece. But the fanbase is a bit too passionate in public.

If we go far back into the early and late 2000s internet, we will see a lot of stereotypes and hate against anime fans. Most of the internet memes making fun of anime fans are filled with images specifically of Naruto fans cosplaying.

Naruto fanbases were known for doing the ninja runs and hand signs in public while wearing the leaf village headbands.  Prior to a lot of the modern anime fans becoming annoying, Naruto used to be the only annoying one.

While we definitely can’t call these sorts of behaviour toxic, they did help make the Naruto fandom become the butt of all jokes. No fanbase would want that to happen to them.

My Hero Academia fans objectifying high schoolers

This may not be isolated to just the My Hero Academia fandom. Objectifying underage characters has been a thing the anime fanbases for ages. It is one of the main reasons why anime fans are looked down upon by others.

It reaches new heights with the My Hero Academia fanbase seeing the absurd demands. The toxic fans have, time and time again, tried to push their own character shipping agendas into the show. Resorting to send death threats to the creator of the show.

They even constantly make requests asking the creator to switch to making adult smut content because of how good his artwork is. My Hero Academia is a show about high school-age characters learning to be superheroes. But unfortunately, it has reached the wrong fandom.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure fans will show up everywhere

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the longest-running anime franchises in history. It is also one of the most beloved series for a lot of people. If we had to recommend someone trying to get into anime for the first time, the Jojo series would definitely be up there.

But when a series gets too big, it also brings with it its own share of toxic fans. The Jojo fanbase is most annoying for being on your nose all the time. It had reached a point where every small discussion post on the internet had a Jojo fan hanging around.

Most of the time, they would disrupt the flow of conversation with the words ‘is this a Jojo reference?’. Or take over the comment section of music videos of old artists on the internet with constant references to the show.

It got so annoying to the point where the fandom had become the butt of all jokes. Thankfully, the Jojo posting and references have simmered down quite a bit these days.

Solo Leveling is the face of modern annoying fanbases

Solo Leveling, also known as Only I Level Up, is a Korean web novel which got turned into an anime series recently. It immediately hit popularity for its incredible animation and action sequences produced by A-1 Pictures.

But the anime has also found itself in the hands of some of the most toxic and annoying fan bases of the modern era. If the Dragon Ball fanbase were known for constantly being annoying by pushing powerscaling arguments. Then, Solo Leveling fans take the cake for taking things up a notch.

The fanbase is widely perceived as being incredibly toxic on the internet when it comes to accepting criticisms of the show. Solo Leveling fans will constantly compare the show with other popular series in order to gain the higher ground and clown themselves.

Jujutsu Kaisen fans won’t stop talking about Gojo Satoru

Aside from Solo Leveling, Jujutsu Kaisen is another series that has recently popped up and taken the internet by storm. Both fandoms are equally annoying and often cross over each other when comparisons are brought up.

The Jujutsu Kaisen fandom is constantly comparing the show with other predecessors, such as Naruto and Dragon Ball. Even though the show is very well written, small criticisms will have the fanbase online pick up pitchforks.

This situation gets extra toxic when the discussion is centered around the character of Gojo Satoru. He is one of the strongest characters in the show with a compelling backstory, but he isn’t the main character.

The fanbase does not care for decency and will do anything to make Gojo the center of attention. This reached new heights when a particular event in the manga caused Gojo to face defeat.

Chainsaw Man fans will not stop complaining about season one

Chainsaw Man is one of the greatest new-gen anime that recently hit big. From the minds of Tatsuki Fujimoto, who has previously worked on some incredible manga. Works that include Fire Punch and Look Back, which were recently adapted into an animated film.

The story of Chainsaw Man follows the young man named Denji. He has the ability to tap into the titular character. He fights to protect humans from other devils alongside others who have made deals with them.

While the manga has an incredible fan following, the same cannot be said about the anime. Chainsaw Man is adapted into an animation by studio MAPPA, who have done a wonderful job. But the fans will not shut up about why the artstyle used for the show does not translate well from the source.

Darling in the Franxx fans sent death threats to a voice actor

Darling in the Franxx is a mech anime created by Code: 000. The animation was produced by three big studios which included the famous Studio Trigger. The plot of the show is not something completely new to the genre.

It follows a world where children are created artificially and enlisted into forces for the survival of the remaining humanity. The story mainly focuses on a group of these children, including Zero Two, a human hybrid. Darling in the Franxx has garnered a lot of fans due to fan service and romance ships.

But sadly, it’s the wrong kind of fans, because they can get way too possessive about their characters and ships. This culminated in death threats directed towards one of the voice actors for the character, Ichigo. It showcases the harms of parasocial relationships that non-existent characters can bring about in real life.

Attack on Titan fans tried harassing it’s creator online

image from Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is another really popular show from the recent decades that is also one of the few that ended. Hajime Isayama originally started writing and publishing it way back in 2009. It stayed fairly unpopular until the anime came about and shot it into popularity.

It follows a really interesting and dark premise where humanity have regressed into hiding behind large walls. They are constantly stalked by giant humanoid creatures known as the titans. Everything changes one day when one of the walls break.

Despite having huge fan following, the creator does not have a good relation with the show’s fanbase. This is mainly due to the things that conspired and led to the ending of the series. Insteaed of letting things be fans took the drastic steps to dish out their disappointment on the creator.

Death threats and mockery on social media reached new heights. This even led to Hajime Isayama issuing a statement asking fans to be kind and considerate.
