Ben Stiller is not just a Knicks superfan, but some even go as far as to say that the NBA team is basically the love of his life. He and his wife revealed that they are quite superstitious when it comes to the team, and went as far as to say that they “burned” the outfits that they wore to the Game 3 finals, where the Knicks lost to the Spurs 115-111.
During ESPN’s NBA Tip-Off on Wednesday (June 10), the moviestar said,
“My wife Christine and I came home after the last game and burned the clothes we were wearing…I’m never wearing that stupid Finals shirt that I was wearing, that was awful, and the jeans. She had some bracelets that got thrown away. Yeah, it’s just you wipe it clean.”
And the actor’s fanaticism goes even further when he goes on the New Heights podcast and says that he is willing to sacrifice an Oscar if it means that the Nicks will win the finals.
“Realistically, I think the Knicks winning a championship is in the cards. I’m definitely down for that. At the end of the day, if I knew that I had the choice, I would give it to the Knicks because I knew at least I had the choice. The Knicks winning a championship still seems a little bit like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t imagine that.’ But we’re just starting to feel like it, but then, always, something happens.”
The Knicks-Spurs Game 3 finals was full of drama
The Knicks-Spurs Game 3 finals saw a lot of drama, both before and after the game. With President Trump making an appearance and NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith saying before the game that if the Knicks do lose, then it will be because of the president.
Now, after the Knicks lost 115-111, thereby losing their 13-game winning streak, Smith said on the June 9 First Take episode that, “Our president showed up in New York City last night. And needless to say, what I feared would happen ended up happening. The New York Knicks lost. And obviously, I’m blaming him.”
Apart from this, we even saw Dave Potnoy slam Monica McNutt for questioning Taylor Swift’s loyalty to the Knicks, and then Trump hitting back at Smith and questioning his desire for a presidential run. The president said that Smith, “is a nice guy, but you need a certain aptitude to run for president…You need a high IQ. I’m not sure that Stephen has that, I don’t think he does actually.”
Irrespective of all the drama, the Knicks were able to regain their mojo and clinched Game 4 by overcoming a 29-point deficit to beat the Spurs in what many are hailing as the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
