So far, we have come across a lot of characters and institutions that actively enjoy power and wealth in the world of Deadlock. Whether it is about ruling over the Cursed Apple’s underworld or being the most dangerous supernatural entity, characters from all walks of life have gathered for the ritual.
And yet, nothing comes close to the powerhouse that is the Fairfax Industries, or dare I say, Fairfax empire. Much like the Wayne Enterprises and Stark Industries from comic books, but unfortunately, without a rational leader like Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne.
You see, Fairfax Industries is run by this individual named Maximillian Fairfax, a descendant of Walter Fairfax, whose statue can be found around the game’s level designs. Maximilian Fairfax, at first glance, looks like a multibillionaire industrialist who enjoys donating to charity.

Maximillian Fairfax ordered the assassination of his heir
Much like real-world billionaires, he is said to have donated a small portion of his fortune to New York’s Orphanages. Maximilian Fairfax also occasionally appears in front of news outlets like The New York Oracle to present himself as an advocate for peace and harmony.
But all of that facade wears off once you start digging into the history of Fairfax Industries. It is an establishment that enjoys an absolute global monopoly over the supply and research of spirit-based weaponry, the type that can cause genocide.
The same kind we see being used by McGinnis, who heads the Military R&D department of Fairfax Industries, and perhaps is responsible for the increasing mortality rate in the world of Deadlock.

Criticisms about Maximillian Fairfax take a much darker turn once we get to learn that his malicious intent extends to his own family as well. He is the same person who is rumored to have ordered the assassination of his own child, Arin Fairfax.
Pocket wishes to complete the ritual and stop Maximillian Fairfax
There is no clear plot evidence in the game yet which indicate as to why Maximillain Fairfax wanted his heir dead. But it can be assumed that there were conflicts of interest, and Arin clearly posed a threat to the future of Fairfax’s functions.
Luckily, Arin survived the assassination and is now hiding under a new name called Pocket. Now they wage a war against their own father from the streets of Cursed Apple. Pocket wishes to stop Maximillian Fairfax and take control of his position by completing the Patron summoning ritual.

In the meantime, they are also investigating the person behind their assassination. Word on the street is that it was Calico, the former Baxter Society member now turned assassin.
Pocket’s experience with escaping their own assassination has turned them into a much more reserved individual. They will often push away people close to them when help is offered. We find this out through their conversations with Dynamo, who is Pocket’s godfather.
