During one of his livestreams in September 2025, Bwipo started discussing the challenges that are faced by women in esports. While he initially did acknowledge a lack of support for female colleagues, his commentary soon took a sharp turn. He then specifically pointed to menstruation as the biggest barrier for women, saying there remains “a time of the month where you should not be playing competitive games as a woman.”

He further elaborated his comments, citing some personal anecdotal experience. He claimed it was really obvious when the woman he used to live with started getting irritated when playing ranked games. Despite adding, he wasn’t “trying to be sexist,” the generalisation on competitive capabilities and emotional states of women during their periods was perceived exactly as he said. The clip then went viral, igniting criticism and a lot of scrutiny from the community.

How did FlyQuest respond to Bwipo’s sexist comments?

FlyQuest made sure to move quickly to address this entire situation. There was a formal statement released by the organization on X condemning Bwipo’s remarks as “sexist comments that are antithetical to FlyQuest’s core values.” The organization further emphasized their commitment to making the entire gaming experience exclusive for all, stating that such language harms as well as discourages women from taking a step within the esports career.

For holding Bwipo accountable, FlyQuest further announced 2-part disciplinary action against him. The player got suspended for the next crucial series of the team in the LTA playoffs. FlyQuest even pledged to donate all prize money that Bwipo earned from the event to the non-profit causes that would be dedicated to supporting women in the gaming industry.

He further described all his comments to be “ignorant and disrespectful to women,” and then tried to offer a sincere apology to anyone who got hurt by his actions. The FlyQuest Pro said he will be “taking steps to reflect, listen, and do better.” It marked a completely clear shift from the initial casual remarks of his towards a more serious recognition of the harm that he has caused.
