After Shadow Dropping Deadlock a Year Ago, Valve Likely Gearing Up For Open Beta

Deadlock has been in closed playtest ever since being shadow dropped last year. The third-person shooter MOBA shadow dropped in August last year. It has been in closed playtesting since then with players only receiving access through invites from friends.

The core mechanics of Deadlock are quite similar to other popular MOBAs like League of Legends and Dota 2.

The map is divided into three lanes. Two teams of six face each other and try to destroy the opposing “patron”. Deadlock currently has 30 heroes that have their unique abilities that change the way teams function in each game.

The latest leaks from sleeplive, a content creator, has revealed that Deadlock’s open beta could possibly arrive in July 2025.

This could point towards Valve feeling confident enough to release their upcoming title to a wider audience for beta testing.

With the open beta possibly launching soon, there could also be the addition of features. These can include new characters which can make the game more enticing and polished in the open beta. This could possibly increase the ratings and generate a solid playerbase.

What is a front-to-back playstyle in League of Legends?

Ever since Deadlock’s shadow drop in 2024, the game has drawn numerous comparisons to other established titles such as League of Legends, Dota 2, and VALORANT. More recently, games such as Fragpunk also have certain similarities with Deadlock.

Deadlock has an ambitious mix of MOBA and shooter elements. This could be a breath of fresh air in the gaming scene. It can naturally evolve into a promising esports title, with a couple of tournaments already being held in closed playtesting.

Deadlock has a lot of room for creative expression as well as raw mechanical skill. If the leaks do happen to be true, gamers can potentially look forward to a big title that can hold its ground in the MOBA and shooter genres.
