While you can choose to explore the open world of Where Winds Meet in whichever way you want, you will still want to get the perfect start to your journey. This is especially true if you are a beginner to the genre and want to make progression as streamlined as possible.
There are a lot of nuances in the RPG, most of which are not properly explained by the UI or tutorial. So if you are struggling early on, the beginner tips and tricks provided below will help you out.
Tips and tricks for getting the best start in Where Winds Meet
Here are some things to keep in mind if you are looking to have the ideal start in Where Winds Meet:
1) Making the most of the Curiosity Vendor

Whenever you see a butterfly symbol on the map, make sure to always go for them. There are a bunch of different ones that you will come across, and once you reach them (where you will generally have to shoot some butterflies to activate the flower), you will then be able to loot the curiosity.
Looting curiosities work towards upgrading your character’s passives. Apart from butterflies, you will also need to catch crickets, which will also help in progressing your character.
Once you have collected your curiosities, you will need to head towards the vendor. It’s the same NPC who gave you your first weapon choice. Now you can use these curiosities to increase your base stats. Later, you will also unlock a new travel mode by collecting Curiosities and upgrading your character, so make sure you are always going towards the butterfly icon as soon as it pops up.
2) Get a Horse ASAP

In Where Winds Meet, you explore the vast open world of Wuxia. The amount of land you can roam in is quite extensive, and it’s going to take you a very long time to discover the entire map if you are planning to do it on foot.
This is where a mount comes in, and it’s recommended that you get your hands on a horse as soon as you start your journey.
If you are not looking to wait, then a neat way of getting a horse is to go up to an NPC that is riding one. Then the goal will be to keep hitting them till the dismount. You will then get on the horse, and the mount will automatically become yours.
3) Picking the right Weapon Types

There are two primary weapons that you will get to wield in Where Winds Meet. However, you will start the game with a Sword and Spear, with the other Weapon Type unlocking later on. Just because you get your hands on a weapon of a different type doesn’t mean you will be allowed to use it.
So if you find a Fan or a Mo Blade in the early game, you will not be able to wield them till you unlock the respective Martial Art. And to unlock the art, you will have to steal it from a Master.
So once you find the master, you will have to watch them, play the minigame, and then, as a result, unlock the art for the weapon type.
Now, the primary weapons that you choose will depend on the playsytle as well as the weapon synergies. Not all weapons have an ideal pairing with one another. For example, Dual Blades work best with Rope Darts and will not synergize well with something like a Sword.
Similarly, if you are going for a more bruiser build, you will want to pair Spear with Mo Blades. If you are going for a more support, backline healing-oriented build, then you are pairing Panacea Fan with Soulshade Umbrella.
4) Unlock every Stone Pillar to help exploration

Don’t sleep on unlocking all the Stone Pillars that you come across in Where Winds Meet. These act as fast travel points, allowing you to have a much easier time exploring the map.
Now, once you activate these points, you will be able to spot book icons around them, which are small side activities that you can complete to unlock new Internal Arts. Internal Arts are active skills that are absolutely essential in progression.
You will not gain access to the various skills if you do not do the side activities. Moreover, some of these skills will then be useful when completing various side activities in the open world. Not having them will not let you progress them and unlock new content, boss fights, and items.
So make sure you are not only unlocking the Stone Pillars but also heading towards these book icons to get the various Internal Arts.
5) Focus on Regional Progress

As you complete more side content and unlock new points of interest and bosses in an area, you will notice a progress bar on the bottom left-hand side of the map. This is your regional progress meter that fills out every time you complete a new activity in the game, and have unlocked Shrines and Stone Pillars.
By progressing through each region, you will be able to unlock various loot from the progress bar. This loot varies in value based on how far you are progressing and will contain a lot of essential items like the Muyunpei, which will unlock the flight traversal system.
So it’s recommended that you not rush through exploration in Where Winds Meet, and take the time to explore the region that you are in before moving on to the next one.
