Best save editors in Elden Ring, and how to use them

Using a Save Editor to edit your save files is arguably the safest way to cheat in Elden Ring. Trainers and runtime cheat mods like ‘Elden Ring Ultimate Cheat Engine Table’ have a broader range of options, but these are unsafe.

As you are tampering with the executable itself, these are more prone to glitches and breaking your game altogether.

On the other hand, modified save files are far less likely to break your save altogether. In this guide, we will discuss two of the best save editors you can use, and what options are available for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

When and why you should edit your save files in Elden Ring

Elden Ring save editor can be useful

It’s worth remembering Bandai Namco have grounds to issue bans on players who use unfair methods to gain advantage in the competitive modes.

While editing your save files is not nearly as blatant as using mods or trainers, it still counts as cheating. Therefore, you are advised to stay away from save editors if you aim to participate in PvP activities.

On the other hand, if you are in it for the single-player experience only, a save editor can be very beneficial. It lets you skip some of the early-game grind to get to specific build setups easier.

For example, a save editor is useful for Tarnished who want to jump into the Shadow of The Erdtree DLC but don’t have a ready end-game save-file.

What are the best save editors in Elden Ring?

Leading up to the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, the following are the best Elden Ring save file editors:

Other alternatives such as darklee16’s save file manager also exist, but these are not up-to-date with the current state of the game. Note that these have only been tested with the base build of Elden Ring before the DLC’s release.

Elden Ring Save Manger options and usage

Elden Ring Save manager has an in-built system to create, duplicate, or make backups for save files. In terms of modifications, the following are the options as described on the mod page:

  • Edit item quantities ( Can’t add items you don’t have )
  • Edit character stats
  • Down-level characters to meet PVP meta (might get you banned)
  • Copy characters between save files
  • Restore deleted characters
  • Duplicate characters within the same save file
  • Rename characters in-game name
  • Seamless CO-OP .co2 extension support
  • Automatically patch downloaded save files with your own Steam ID
  • Change Steam ID of file to use other players saves
  • Fix corrupt save files by recalculating checksum values
  • Change quantity of Runes
  • God mode (sets HP, ST, FP to 60,000)
  • File recovery tool that backs up your save file before every action
  • Create save and load backups
  • Create save slots for various builds before respec etc.
  • Update to the latest release with included updater
  • Force quit EldenRing when the game locks up and even task manager wont end the process

ER Save Editor options and usage

Compared to Elden Ring Save Manger, ER Save Editor has a much slicker UI out of the gate. On top of PC saves, you can also modify PS4 save files with this, but you will need PlayStation Save Wizard to import and export these.

  • Import characters from other save files
  • Change pc save file SteamID
  • Modify player name
  • Change player gender
  • Edit player stats
  • Modify soul count
  • Add items, weapons, armors, ashes of war, and talismans to inventory
  • Add items in bulk to speed up build making process.
  • Browse inventory
  • Change player equipment
  • Activate/deactivate Sites of Grace, summoning pools, colosseums, etc.
  • Revive or kill bosses
  • Activate/deactivate invadable regions
  • More features will be added in future updates

If you are editing existing Elden Ring save files, remember to make a manual back up to revert to later. Alternatively, you can use ScratAUS’ Save File Backup Manager. If you are preparing for Shadow of The Erdtree, a cleaner option also exists: use a clean save file from Nexusmods.

Disclaimer: Note that Elden Ring runs with an anti-cheat software. If your save file is deemed ‘tampered with’, you are likely to face an account-wide ban in Elden Ring. This will still let you play the game, but disable all co-op and PvP action.
