Destiny 2 is filled with an assortment of activities, including Paranormal Activity events in The Final Shape. These show up in the latest expansion, and a series of puzzles scattered across the Pale Heart map.
While the puzzles vary across this event, the general idea is that there are cubes of Darkness and Light in these areas, and they need to be connected.
Completing these events give the player a pair of Pale Heart Engrams, 3000 Glimmer, and 400 EXP. In addition, if you complete all 11 Paranormal Activity events in Destiny 2, you unlock the new Exotic Ship, The First Knife, as well as a Paracausal Geometries triumph. Let’s dive into the topic.
How to unlock Paranormal Activity events in Destiny 2
Here’s what you need to do to unlock Paranormal Activity events in Destiny 2:
- Complete the campaign. You don’t need to do it on Legend difficulty, but it’s recommended since you get better gear.
- Complete the Alone in the Dark questline from Micah-10.
After you’ve completed these steps, Paranormal Activity events will start spawning on your instance within the Pale Heart of the Traveler in Destiny 2 The Final Shape.
It’s worth noting that a Paranormal Activity event in Destiny 2 cannot be accessed unless it starts on your instance. So you’ll have to wait for it to show up on your map before you can access it.
That said, to start the event, you need to visit the location and then interact with the orb that spawns here. Once you commune with this orb, you’ll receive a buff known as the “Aura of Balance” which has a two minute timer.
During these two minutes, you will need to find a box with a blue circle and one with a red triangle on it and then shoot it. The box with the blue circle needs to be shot with a Light weapon (a weapon with Arc/Solar/Void affinity) while the box with the red triangle needs to be shot with a Darkness weapon (a weapon with Stasis/Strand affinity.)
Shoot both the boxes to link them and you’ll have complete the activity. There are 11 such instances that you will come across while exploring the Pale Heart in Destiny 2 The Final Shape. Completing all these instances will reward you with the First Knife Exotic Ship.
So, here’s a guide on where you can find all the Paranormal Activity events in Destiny 2.
All Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity event locations and solutions
1) The Transgression
When you have access to The Transgression, head to the bottom of a flight of stairs, where the Commune point is – look for a glowing sphere. You need to find a spot where you can shoot both cubes, but that won’t be hard.
If you drop down and head to the purple under pass below where you were standing, you can see both cubes easily.
2) The Blooming
In the southwest corner of The Blooming, you’ll see a Commune point. You’ll also see a ledge to jump up, right above you. Take it, and head down the path until you see the Blue cube. If you move forward and away just a little, you’ll see the Red cube in your line of sight.
Move forward until you can easily look into the passage leading forward. There’s a large boulder, and next to it is the cube. All you need to do now to wrap this up is shoot both cubes with the right weapon type, and complete this Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity.
3) The Impasse
In the northeast corner of The Impasse, you’ll see the blue glowing orb that you commune with for The Impasse Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity event. If you face the doorway nearby, you can look up to see the Red cube on the left side. This one’s a little tricky.
Jump on top of the Red Cube, and double-jump forward to land on the nearby pillar. You’ll be able to easily look down a bit, and see the Blue Cube nearby. Just shoot these two pillars with the right guns, and you’re done here.
4) The Lost City
Head west from The Lost City in Destiny 2, and you’ll soon see the Commune point inside a door to begin this Paranormal Activity. There is a possibility of some combat in this area, either before or after you start, so do beware of that.
Once you’ve Communed, dash and jump onto the nearby building that has a moss-covered statue on top of it. Stand on the platform on top of the roof, aim up, and you’ll see a Blue cube. Then, if you turn to your right, you’ll see the Red cube. Shoot these, and wait for the next event.
5) The Lost City Outskirts
Another particularly simple Destiny 2 puzzle, this Paranormal Activity requires you to head to the Lost City Outskirts. Head to the courtyard in this area, with a doorway and two gates. You’ll see the Commune light in front of the left gate.
You’ll probably have to deal with some enemies in this section first, as well. Look for the tree with chunks missing in it. Head into the nearby building (on the left), that has a tree in the middle of it.
Climb the tiered platform behind the tree, and look through the nearby metal grated doorway. You can just barely see the Blue cube. If you turn around towards the broken tree, you can see a Red cube hiding there.
6) The Seclusion
You’ll find the Commune point on a rocky cliff in this secluded area. You can easily see the Blue cube, on a rocky hanging platform from here. Jump to that platform, but then keep going, jumping to the far away hanging platform directly behind it.
To solve this Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity, you will need to look to the rocky platform directly in front of you. The Red cube to shoot is right there. The Blue cube will be just barely in sight, so ping that first, and then shoot the close-by Red cube.
7) The Landing
Once you’ve communed in this Destiny 2 area, the Paranormal Activity can officially begin. Look to the nearby house – it’s on concrete stilts, and has a tree growing against it. Head into this blue-painted house, via the window, and squat in said window.
If you turn around, you can see the blue cube in the water. Open fire on it, then immediately turn to the nearby waterfall. Down in the base of the waterfall, you can see the glow of the Red cube. Give it a few shots, and you’re done.
8) The Forgotten Deep
The Forgotten Deep’s Paranormal Activity in Destiny 2 isn’t too hard to locate. You’ll find the Commune point near the boss room of this section of the map. You can easily see the Blue cube straight ahead.
Instead of shooting it, jump to the nearby building with two pillars on top of it. Stand on one, and you can see the Red cube floating in the air near the large bush that looks like a person. Then you can turn around and shoot the Blue cube to sort this section out.
9) The Burning Deep
This Paranormal Activity also takes place in Destiny 2’s Pale Heart section – this time in The Blooming Deep. From the Commune point, you can see a Red cube. Instead of shooting it, turn left and head down the grassy path between the two rocky sections.
Go to where you see a purplish-red glowing area nearby, and you can see both the Blue and Red cubes from here. It’s just a simple matter of shooting both, claiming your rewards, and moving on in the game.
10) The Divide
Once you’ve Communed with the orb, take the winding, upward path heading up the mountain. Keep going up until you see a huge blue icy rock, and run past it. You’ll see some broken plane parts in the snow pretty soon. Jump across the chasm to get on the side of the rocks where the plane is.
Inside the airplane, you’ll see the Red cube. Head outside, and onto the closeby cliff. Just exit the part where the airplane is broken to get onto this cliff. If you look down during this Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity, you’ll see the Blue cube down and to the left. Shoot the cubes, and you’re done here.
11) The Refraction
Commune with the sphere, to get this Destiny 2 Paranormal Activity started. Turn slightly to your left, and you’ll see a rocky outcropping in a cliff. You can see a tree growing down towards it, as well as some broken ship parts. Jump from the broken ship, up to a rocky outcropping, and then across to the next one. If you look straight ahead, you can see the trees, and a huge waterfall pouring down.
If you look out towards where you began, you’ll see the Red cube in the air. It’s obscured slightly by a rock. If you can’t find it, look to the waterfall, it’s red glow can be seen just underneath the waterfall. The Blue cube is down and to the left, obscured by the leaves of a tree. You can see the glow just barely.
Once you’ve completed all 11 of these Paranormal Activities, you can head into the “Secrets” section of your menus, click “Paracausal Geometries”, and claim The First Knife Exotic ship as your ultimate reward.
