Major Destiny 2 expansions are free, but there’s a catch

Following the release of the Into the Light expansion, Destiny 2 has seen a major surge in its player count. To capitalize on that Sony is giving PlayStation and PC players free access to the major expansions of the game.

The expansion that players will be able to access are as follows:

  • Forsaken
  • Shadowkeep
  • Beyond Light
  • Witch Queen

However, it’s worth noting that this free Destiny 2 expansion access will be available from May 7 to June 4.

Considering that Lightfall was released last year, it isn’t available for free, but it is available at a discounted rate for players.

Players who have a PS Plus subscription will have access to Lightfall and all the Seasonal activities that were a part of this expansion.

These activities include:

  • Defiant Battlegrounds
  • Deep Dive
  • Altars of Summoning / Imbaru Engine / Savathun’s Spire
  • Riven’s Lair / The Coil

If you have Lightfall then you will also be able to access Strand, the newest Darkness subclass that was introduced alongside this expansion.

Once The Final Shape releases, you will have to purchase these expansions if you want to continue to play the content they have to offer, but the Seasonal content mentioned above will be vaulted.

While they’re free, you will be able to participate in all the Dungeons and the Raids that are associated with these Destiny 2 expansions, and keep the weapons that you earn from them too.

If you’re interested in purchasing The Final Shape, which also happens to be the most important expansion in Destiny 2, then now might be a good time to jump into the game.

Not only will you have access to a major portion of the content, you will also be able to farm the weapons and equipment necessary to tackle the new Raid once it goes live.
