Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid guide

Jeuno: The First Walk is the very first Alliance Raid that has made its way to Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail with the 7.1 update. The raid takes about 45 minutes to complete and much like its predecessors, Jeuno: The First Walk will feature four main bosses, other trash mobs, and mini-bosses that you will need to get through.

It’s a good idea to complete the Alliance Raid at least once every week if you are serious about end-game gear progression in the MMO. This is because you will be able to net Ordelle Coins (a maximum of one every week) by completing it.

You will be able to exchange Ordelle Coins or “Surgelight Twine” and “Surgelight Glaze” which are enhancement items used to augment your Quetzalli gear and increase their level to 730. It’s a neat alternative to leveling your gear if you are finding the Arcadion Savage raid to be too difficult.

So if you are keen on completing Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid, here is everything you need to know about beating its several bosses.

How to unlock Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid in Final Fantasy XIV

You will be able to unlock Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid in Final Fantasy XIV after completing the level 100 Main Scenario Quest “Dawntrail”. Once you are now with the mission, you will need to make your way to the X:13.0, Y:11.6 coordinates in Tuliyollal and talk to the Hoobigo Messenger.

This will then start the “An Otherworldly Encounter” mission which will take you all the way to Yak T’el. Here you will meet an Elvaan adventurer and upon interacting with them you will learn that they are missing memories.

Keep following the quest markers and you will eventually go up against the first boss of the raid, Prishe.

How to beat Prishe of the Distant Chains

Prishe Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno- The First Walk Alliance Raid

Once you make your way through the initial round of trash mobs, you will face Prishe who is the first boss of Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid. She can deal a lot of damage and comes with a rather unique charge-up mechanic.

To make the fight easier just pay some attention to her voice lines, especially when she she starts to channel an attack and will display three telegraphs instead of one. She will say “Wait for it…” and each time she says the words, it will correspond to one of the attacks.

With three telegraphs she will be able to do this a maximum of three times. So make sure you are placing yourself in a way that will let you survive the attack.

Apart from this move, she is pretty manageable, and below we go over a list of all of Prishe’s main moves in Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid and how you can counter them:

AttackEffectHow to counter
Knuckle SandwichPrishe will target an AoE on the ground. You will see three circles each a bit larger than the previous. She will then say “Wait for it…” and slam the ground. She can do this a total of three times with each “Wait for it…” corresponding to one circle.Stand outside the corresponding circle every time she says “Wait for it…”
Nullifying DropkickA tank-busting move that can instantly wipe you out.The best way to counter this will be to share the damage between the three tanks in your party. Make sure to group and use your abilities to sustain the incoming damage when Prishe channels this.
Banish StormPrishe will spawn three staves. These will be above ground and will have an arrowhead that points outwards.
After a short duration, AoEs will start spawning towards the direction of the arrow. These are moderately sized and do a fair bit of damage.
Avoid them by going in the direction where the arrows are not pointing.
Crystalline ThornsA big portion of the arena will be marked red by Prishe. She will then spawn spikes within it, which are very lethal.

*This move is usually followed by an Auroral Uppercut.
Move out of the red AoE spot.
Auroral UppercutPrishe will target each of your party members with a knockback. This can be especially deadly if the move is used as a follow-up when Crystalline Thorns are still active. You will see three telegraphs for the move, so wait for her “Wait for it…” sound queue and adjust your position so you can land on a safe spot after she completes her channel.
Banishga IVPrishe will now spawn orbs throughout the arena. These will swell in size and then do large AoE once they are big enough.A good way to counter this will be to move to a smaller orb that just spawned. Then wait for a nearby large orb to blow and then move into the safe spot.

How to beat Fafnir the Forgotten

Fafnir the Forgotten Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno- The First Walk Alliance Raid guide

Once you have defeated Prishe, the next boss you will encounter in Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid is the dragon, Fafnir. The boss is pretty big in size and comes with a range of high-damage attacks that can instantly wipe your party.

To make things difficult, Fafnir will often cast Hurricane Wings where winds will spawn throughout the arena. This is capable of blowing players around and can cause a fair bit of damage. Fafnir will also combo this into summoning Darters which you will need to take out immediately.

So the best way to deal with this boss is to learn each of Fafnir’s attack patterns. Your party’s tanks and healers will also need to be constantly aware of evolving situations and adapt.

Here is a list of Fafnir’s main moves that you should be looking out for apart from the Hurricane Wings:

AttackEffectHow to counter
Offensive PostureWhen assuming this posture, Fafnir will take three different forms. The animation is different for each form and he can execute attacks from them one after the other. So make sure to learn the patterns by heart:

Head Charged:
Fafnir will spew fire from its mouth which will travel clockwise around the edge of the arena. The fire will then fade in the same pattern as that of the cast.

*Fafnir will follow this move with Tail Charged or Feet Charged Offensive Posture.

Tail Charged:
Fafnir gears up to swipe at the arena that is behind it. This will be a 270-degree AoE.

Feet Charged:
Fafnir slams the ground thereby creating a large AoE which surrounds it.
Head Charged counter: Stay at the very beginning of the circle and then move into the safe space to avoid a follow-up.

Tail Charged counter: As Fafnir attacks behind it, you will need to head to the spot in front of its head.

Feet Charged counter: The edges of the arena will be the only spots that are outside the red AoE range.
Baleful BreathFafnir will deal with a high damage that will hit you and your party members multiple times. It will also spread damage across all players when it hits. The best way to counter this is to huddle together with all your party members. Only leave the stack when the attack channeling is done.
Winged TerrorFafnir’s wings start glowing purple as it makes its way to the edge of the arena. After a brief charging time, it will slam down to its left and right. The area in the middle in front of Fafnir’s head is the only safe spot.
Absolute TerrorFafnir will move to the edge of the arena again, but this time its entire body will glow purple. After a brief cast, it will shoot a large AoE in the middle of the arena which is right in front of its head.Stick to Fafnir’s sides to avoid the entire attack.

How to beat The Ark Angels

The Ark Angels Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno- The First Walk Alliance Raid guide

Once you beat Fafnir you then encounter a stone Talos-type enemy and ten finally the Ark Angels. The Ark Angels is the most chaotic fight in Final Fantasy XIV’s Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid. This is because you fight against five enemies at the same time and each has its own set of attacks and AoE abilities that you will need to dodge around.

A neat way of taking out the angels will be to group them together and target them all with your hardest-hitting AoE attacks. This will make the encounter significantly more manageable.

Here is a list of all the Ark Angels’ main attacks and how to counter them:

AttackEffectHow to counter
The Decisive BattleWhen the encounter starts, each party will be tethered to their own Ark Angel. This will apply the “Epic Hero Effect” and your party members will only be allowed to damage the Ark Angel that has their matching effect. This can be a bit confusing to get used to at first. So just stick to your tank in the initial phase if you are having trouble.
Meikyo ShisuiWhen the Ark Angels channel this move they will pull off the following AoE attacks:

– AoE checkerboard ice attacks
– Glowing orb
– AoE flower attack (Part 1)
– AoE flower attack (Part 2)
– 6 AoE lightning cones that shoot out from the center of the stage.
For the AoE attacks just make sure to stay in the safe zone. For the lightning cones especially, remember to stand in the middle of the safe cone as the safe area is much smaller than it appears.

As for the Glowing Orb, just make sure to look away from it.
MeteorArk Angel TT starts casting the spell. He has a very long wind-up time and is likely going to wipe your entire team if the cast goes through. You should always look to interrupt this move by using Interject.
GuillotineArk Angel TT will now move to one side of the room and start throwing out large cleave-like attacks right in front of him.The best way to avoid this attack is to stand on his side.
UtsusemiWhen channeling Utsusemi, Ark Angel HM will make four clones. These will then tether themselves to a party member and then start to chase them around the arena.Avoid getting caught by the tether by keeping your distance from them. If they do latch on just run around till their effects end.
Mijin GakureArk Angel EV will create an Ark Shield as soon as Ark Angel HM starts to cast Mijin Gakure. It’s a devastating ability and your goal will be to stop the cast before it goes off.The aim here is to break the shield with attacks. Coordinate with your party to concentrate their DPS on this. Once the shield is down, one party member will need to use Interrupt on Mijin Gakure to stop the cast.
RampageArk Angel MR will create three large linear AoEs after dashing around the arne. The angel will then slam the ground to create additional large circle AoEs.Avoid the AoEs by stepping out of their effect radius.

How to beat Shadow Lord in The First Walk

How to beat Shadow Lord in Final Fantasy XIV Jeuno-The First Walk Alliance Raid

The Shadow Lord is an extremely difficult encounter and you will need to constantly be on your toes to avoid getting wiped out. The final boss of the Alliance Raid hits hard and will combo magic attacks with physical attacks.

Things get even more difficult when he starts to form clones of himself. He has a variety of attacks up his sleeves, and the best way to manage this fight is to avoid everything that he throws at you.

Here is a list of all Shadow Lord’s main moves and how to avoid them:

AttackEffectHow to counter
Giga SlashThe boss will conjure two sweeping swords which will appear around the Shadow Lord and then disappear. It will leave a small safe zone behind which will allow you to avoid follow-up cleaves.Avoid the attack and follow-ups by reaching the first safe spot and then quickly moving to the second safe spot.
Giga Slash: NightfallA third telegraphed attack will be added to Giga Slash.Keep moving between the safe spots.
Umbra SmashThe Shadow Lord will slam the ground and create an AoE in a straight line. AoE damage will then be cast out of the lines.Avoid the attack by moving into the safe spot which is created by the previous line.
ImplosionThe boss will conjure an orb in each hand and then lift it up creating a field of semi-circular AoE. One of the ors will grow bigger. To avoid it, you will need to stand on the very opposite side of the arena that the boss is in.
Chthonic FuryShadow Lord will begin a new phase of the fight by transforming the entire arena and dealing damage to every single party member. No counter to this. Just make sure to heal up.
Dark NebulaThe arena will now be transformed into four circles. They will have interconnected passages and the Shadow Lord will start channeling a knockback line AoE from one side of the arena.Stand on the side of the arena which will give you enough room to land in a safe spot after you get knocked back.
Dark SigilsShadow Lord will now produce circular and square telegraphed areas in the arena. Each of them will spawn thorns which will either be on the outside facing outwards, or inside facing inwards.
The AoE which will be channeled from them will follow the direction of the thorns.
Adjust your position in a way that the thorns are not facing you.
Shadow SpawnThe boss will create two clones who will be able to use Giga Slash or Implosion. It will follow the attack order that the Shadow Lord uses.Just stay on your toes and invest in the above-stated countermeasures for the moves.
Binding SigilShadow Lord will spawn three circular sigils on the ground. They will appear and detonate in a sequence, ultimately creating large AOe once the casting time ends.Run into the previous detonation spots as those will create pockets of safe zones from the follow-up explosions.

Rewards for completing Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid in Final Fantasy XIV

Every Jeuno boss will drop a level 720 Ark Angel armor set once they are defeated. 720 is the second-highest gear level as of patch 7.1 which can then be further augmented to level 730 with the use of Ordelle coins.

Ordelle Coins are obtained by beating Shadow Lord and you can only get one of these per week. You can then use Ordelle Coins to trade them for enhancement items by interacting with Uuah’shepya in Solution Nine (X:8.6, Y:13.5). The enhancement items will then let you augment the Quetzali gear level cap to 730.

Apart from the gear sets and the Ordelle Coin, you will also gain the Nano Lord minion collectible which is a miniature version of the Shadow Lord. Orchestrion rolls are also something that you can get for completing Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid in Final Fantasy XIV.
