Despite not being a true ‘soulslike’, Black Myth Wukong retains the difficulty scaling of FromSoftware’s flagship series, throwing challenging foes in quick succession for the player to deal with.
While selecting the ‘hardest’ bosses in Black Myth Wukong remains largely subject to the player’s opinion (and progression of the game’s story), there exist a handful of enemies who can be downright punishing, and even a nuisance to deal with – which makes defeating them feel all the more satisfying.
5 such bosses can be found listed below. Do keep in mind that some of these bosses are encountered several hours into the game’s rather excellent 50+ hour campaign, and as such will contain spoilers.
The hardest bosses in Black Myth Wukong
1) Wandering Wight

The Wandering Wight represents the first real difficulty spike in Black Myth Wukong. It is also the first optional boss players will encounter in the game. Despite being rather tame compared to most of the other bosses within this list, the Wandering Wight can be quite challenging for newcomers.
Players are rather underequipped at this point of the game, dishing out embarrassingly low amounts of damage in addition to lacking any helpful abilities to aid them during the fight. This can make the boss quite frustrating to deal with, especially when we take into account its large AoE attacks.
2) Stone Monkey/The Great Sage’s Broken Shell

The ‘final’ boss of Black Myth Wukong is no pushover, and is divided into two phases. The first phase has the Chosen One facing off against the ‘Stone Monkey’, a towering, empty stone husk of the original Sun Wukong.
The second phase cranks up the difficulty even further – with a mostly restored Sun Wukong (aptly named ‘The Great Sage’s Broken Shell) challenging the Chosen One to a duel. This fight is incredibly challenging, as the vessel mercilessly bombards you with nonstop combos that deal a ton of damage.
The fight has its moments, and is a fitting farewell – until the credits roll, thrusting you into the endgame, that is.
3) Yellow Wind Sage

The Yellow Wind Sage is a friend turned foe, and considered by many to be one of the toughest bosses in Black Myth Wukong. After obtaining colossal power, this corrupted NPC faces off against the Chosen One within the desert.
The Sage is relentless in his attacks, opting to use both melee and wind magic. One of the more frustrating aspects of this particular fight is the speed at which these attacks take place – providing little to no room for error.
It doesn’t help that he has a massive HP pool either, and most of your attacks will simply chip away at his health bar.
4) Captain Wise-Voice

Captain Wise-Voice is one of the late mid-game bosses, and is a particularly glaring example of when Wukong tries too hard and stumbles. The boss fight comes with the usual wonky hitboxes, along with AoE attacks that feel frustrating at best.
To make things worse, Wise-Voice has a very hard-to-reach, small weakpoint that is only exposed while the enemy is stunned. Wise-Voice also employs many, many laser-like attacks which can be very hard to keep up with, followed by a punishing counter that drains a fair chunk of your HP – in addition to applying debilitating debuffs on you.
5) Erlang, the Sacred Divinity

Erlang, the Sacred Divinity is the first boss players will encounter during their playthrough of Black Myth Wukong. Serving as a tutorial boss, Erlang assists players in mastering their abilities and obtain a taste of Wukong’s combat.
However, this is not the first time players will encounter Erlang – with a second, hidden encounter located past Chapter 6 of the campaign, within the Mei Jian Peak. This hidden encounter has players face off against the deity as the Chosen One, and is a fairly difficult fight.
Erlang possesses a ‘shield’ bar atop his health bar, which reduces the damage taken – in addition to dealing rapid, heavy hitting attacks of his own.
The fight ends with an epic face-off against the Four Heavenly Kings, making the encounter very much worth it (in addition to unlocking a third ending).
6) Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master

The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master resembles a giant centipede and can be quite a pain to deal with. For starters, his attacks deal AoE Lightning damage that can accumulate debuffs on you, in addition to being almost unfair with his aggressive moveset.
The tough exterior of the boss aids in its damage reduction, making even the most well-built Chosen One deal only chip damage to his HP bar.
The most frustrating part about this boss, however, is its movement speed – which can be hard to keep up with during dodges.
7) Yellow Loong

The Yellow Loong is one of the toughest bosses you will come across in Black Myth Wukong, serving as a wake-up call for those who consider Wukong’s combat as ‘too easy’ or ‘too forgiving’.
This particular boss is relentless in its attacks, opting to use Lightning based AoE spells. The attacks are in quick succession, and require precise use of the Immobilize Spell in order to avoid losing a fair chunk of your health in one go.
Making matters worse, he is also quite tanky and agile, which may cause players to struggle in this battle of patience.
Completing this fight will reward you with the ‘Golden Lining’ Spell though, allowing you to transform into the Yellow Loong and use his powers momentarily – making the encounter well worth the effort.
8) Tiger Vanguard

The Tiger Vanguard can be encountered within the Crouching Tiger Temple of Chapter 2, and can be quite the headache for those who have not yet been accustomed to Wukong’s gruelling combat. The boss is fierce in his attacks, opting to use melee-based punches, slashes and kicks in quick succession.
These attacks require precise dodges while remaining mindful of your stamina – which can be hard to keep track of. Furthermore, the boss can also turn into stone, blocking your attacks entirely (which is the main gimmick of this particular fight).
Defeating the Tiger Vanguard unlocks the Rock Solid spell though, which makes defeating him all the more satisfying.
9) Captain Lotus-Vision

Chapter 3’s Pagoda Realm has a battle against Captain Lotus-Vision, a tower deity who can be quite unfair to battle against. This particular boss is optional, meaning players can skip it if so required – which can be quite tempting given the unforgiving nature of the fight.
Captain Lotus-Vision almost exclusively uses ranged attacks, while teleporting around the arena. To make matters even worse, this particular boss can also use a series of insta-kill abilities on you if you are not careful. Be ready to retry this boss more than the usual number of times.
10) Kang-Jin Loong

The lack of a real ranged attack alternative to your melee based combos is something that keeps turning out to be an issue in Black Myth Wukong, and the boss battle against Kang-Jin Loong is a great example of this.
The white dragon opts to use AoE Lightning skills in addition to multiple ranged projectiles against the player, which can be quite annoying to deal with. Furthermore, the boss is almost untouchable during most of the fight – making the fight longer than it needs to be.
Add in a massive HP bar and devastating damage output, and Kang-Jin Loong remains one of the hardest bosses within Black Myth Wukong.
