How to remove the cinematic black bars from Star Wars Outlaws

The action-adventure game Star Wars Outlaws tries to emulate the feel of the movies by introducing a cinematic aspect ratio, putting black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. While it gives the game a unique look, sometimes you might want to play it in the usual widescreen format.

So, if you are one of those who want to remove the black bars and play Star Wars Outlaws in widescreen format on your preferred platform, like a PC, here’s how.

How to play Star Wars Outlaws in Widescreen

Here’s how you can remove the black bars in Star Wars Outlaws:

  • Open your Star Wars Outlaws in-game settings from the main menu or the pause screen. Either works, and I prefer doing it from the pause menu to get an idea of which one looks better.
  • Head over to the Display and Graphics settings. This is where the option to remove black bars in Star Wars Outlaws exists.
  • Then, hover over to the Cinematic display mode option and switch the option from a 21:9 aspect ratio to fill the screen.

Doing the above will rescale the UI and menus to fit the screen, and in-game characters will also take up more screen space. Of course, turning off the cinematic aspect ratio also means your field-of-view for Kay on the sides gets shorter, so if you are fine with that trade-off, consider turning off the black bars.

Furthermore, the fill-the-screen option might also look jarring to the eyes since everything looks pretty large. This includes the UI, Kay herself, Nix, and everything else.

However, you’ll soon get used to it without any trouble. Generally, some games will lock something like this behind a pre-order bonus or as a DLC. So, it is good to see that Ubisoft is giving its player base the choice to select how their game looks.
