Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking guide

Star Wars Outlaws features numerous mini-games throughout your adventures in the various outer rim planets, and one such mini-game is lockpicking. A rhythm game of sorts, lockpicking will test your listening and promptness.

However, just like me, you might initially find the lockpicking confusing. So, here’s how you should successfully lockpick in Star Wars Outlaws.

How to successfully perform lockpicking in Star Wars Outlaws

Press R2/RT/left-click to match the beep pattern to lockpick and unlock the door. Lockpicking in Star Wars Outlaws follows an audio beat, which you must follow to unlock a door successfully. Alternatively, if you have trouble following the beep pattern, simply match your button presses to the light pattern located beside the lock.

The top light in yellow shows you the pattern of the beeps, while the light on the bottom will flash when you press the button. So, simply match the button press to the yellow light, and you’ll see Kay has successfully performed lockpicking!

Since there are two different cues to help you with lockpicking, the best idea here is to focus on either. So, if you rely on the audio cues, simply focus on that. Similarly, if you rely on the light flashes, only focus on doing that. I specifically focused on the audio cues, allowing me to understand the pattern.

Furthermore, the DualSense controller’s haptics also give you a unique cue, where the trigger gets stiff if you don’t follow the pattern and gets easier to press when you follow the pattern. So, if you are using a DualSense controller to play, that is an additional lockpicking cue to help you out.

It all boils down to patience and letting the pattern cycle once to figure out the button prompts. So, try it, as mistakes don’t have any penalties.
