Although The First Descendant has a huge armory, you’ll find yourself sticking to a specific weapon for the most part, which is why you need to know how to upgrade a gun.
The process itself isn’t that complicated, but it can be a little tedious, if you don’t know what you’re looking for along with where to find the materials needed for the upgrade.
How to level up weapons in The First Descendant
To level up a weapon, you’ll need to head to a Repair Station Workbench in The First Descendant. In Albion, you will find a Workbench close to Magister Anais, who’s located past the hallway to the left of Alpha’s briefing room.
Alternatively, you will find these Workbenches at the Primary outposts in an area of any given region on the map.
Once you’re at the Workbench, you’ll need to click on the “Weapon Transmission” option, as this is the one that will help you level up your gun in The First Descendant.
Here you’ll need three items:
- The weapon you want to level up
- A higher level weapon that you’ll sacrifice
- Phase Exchangers

So make your selection in the order mentioned above, and hit the Weapon Level Transmission button once again, and you’re good to go. Your newly leveled up weapon will now have higher stats than it had before, but the weapon you chose to sacrifice won’t be in your inventory anymore.
How to get Phase Exchangers
Phase Exchangers are an upgrade material that you can get by submitting a research request with Magister Anais.
Here’s what you need to craft 1 Phase Exchanger:
- 50 Superalloy
- 2500 Gold
Gold you can get by completing missions and killing monsters, but Superalloy is only obtained by dismantling weapons that you don’t need.

You can also craft these Phase Exchangers in batches of 4, which will cost you 4 times that of a single item and will take 10 minutes to complete. However, it’s just more convenient to craft these items in batches because that way it’s more convenient.
