How to get Prestige Edition skins in League of Legends
As mentioned, you will not be able to purchase Prestige skins with the use of RP. To get these rare cosmetics, here are a few things you will be able to do to get them:
1) Take part in Seasonal Events
League of Legends frequently hosts Seasonal Events that will let you get your hands on a Prestige skin. These events will usually have an event sop offering a variety of cosmetics which usually contain chromas, skin borders, icons, Prestige skins, and other skin variants.
The Prestige skin that is tied to the event will roughly cost 2,200 Event Tokens. Once you get your hands on the required amount, you will either be able to buy the Prestige skin with it, purchase Mythic Essence, or go for Event Orbs.
Event Orbs will have random rewards that you will be able to earn when participating in the event.
2) Get Prestige Skins from Hextech Chest, Masterwork Chests, and Event Orbs
Preste Skins also has a chance of dropping from Hextech Chests, Masterwork Chests, and Event Orbs. There is a fair bit of RnG involved with this, and you will have to be very lucky to be able to get a Prestige edition skin in League of Legends.
3) Buy Prestige skin with Myhic Essence
Mythic Essense is a currency that you will be able to earn by completing missions in events or opening event orbs, chests, and capsules. Mythic Essence is also given out as a reward for leveling the pass as well as completing milestone rewards.
Once you have the required amount of Mythic Essence you will be able to purchase the Prestige skin that is available in the Mythic Essence shop. The contents of the shop rotate periodically.

During a 2019 Ask Riot blog post, the developers mentioned that they take the following things into consideration when picking a champion for a prestige sin:
- The popularity of the champion in pro play and standard matchmaking.
- The last time the champion received a skin.
- If the champion already has an existing Prestige skin.
- If the champion has received a Legendary skin during that season.
