Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance Nuwa boss guide (Tokyo Diet Building)

The first time you encounter Nuwa in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance is when you finally reach the Tokyo Diet Building. She is a major hurdle that you have to overcome in the early game, fortunately, you do not have to completely deplete her HP bar to beat her.

The fight will end once you take her health down to 50% HP in the JRPG. So if you have a reliable party and enough Force Dampeners to block her Omagatoki: Critical then you are not going to have much trouble in the boss fight.

Here is a guide on how you can make your first Nuwa encounter significantly more manageable.

Nuwa (level 22) skills in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

Nuwa Tokyo Diet building stats and abilities

From the base Shin Megami Tensei 5, Nuwa’s skills have more-or-less remained the same in Vengeance. Here is a list of all of her abilities:

Nine-Day Restoration (Innate Skill):

  • Increases damage when striking a foe’s weakness if the Magatsuhi Gauge is not full.

Sacrifice of Clay (+7):

  • Heavy force attack to all foes. Lowers Attack/Defence by 1 rank for 3 turns

Zanma (+7):

  • Medium Force attack to 1 foe

Mazio (+3):

  • Weak Electric attack to all foes

Omagatoki Critical:

  • All attacks, including magical attacks, will become Critical hits for all allies for 1 turn.

How to beat Tokyo Diet Building Nuwa in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

1) Keep a minimum of three Force Dampeners

Force Dampeners are a must in the fight. Nuwa will always go for the Sacrifice of Clay attack after charging her Magatsuhi, and she can one-shot your entire party if they are hit by it.

So head over to Gustave at the Cadaver’s Hollow and buy three Force Dampeners if you do not have them already.

During a round when you see Nuwa activating her Omagatoki do as much damage to her as possible. Keep extending your press turn till you reach the Nahobino or Yoko (Canon of Vengeance only), and use a Force Dampener.

In the next round when she uses her Sacrifice of Clay, the attack will be blocked for all party members, consuming all of her press turns.

2) The fight ends at 50% HP, so don’t sit on your Magatsuhi Gauge

As you do not have to completely deplete her HP to beat her, there is no point sitting on your Magatsuhi Gauge. Every time you can activate your Omagatoki: Critical, go ahead and pull the trigger.

However, for maximum impact, make sure you have softened Nuwa up a bit what Rakunda. With two “defense downs,” she will take a lot more damage.

3) Fuse Nahobino with Sudama essence for more survivability

If your Nahobino is finding it harder to survive in the fight. You can fuse them with Sudama’s affinity to get Force resist. You will be able to get a Sudama essence by having it in your party and leveling it up, talking to it at the Demon Haunts, or interacting with Quest Navigator points of interest (a fair bit of RNG involved in this).

1) Best supports

Ame-no-Uzume Nuwa SMT 5 Vengeance
  • Shiisaa
  • Ame-no-Uzume
  • Yoko (Canon of Vengeance only)

Shiisha is an amazing choice for the encounter. He comes with both Elec and Force resist. Once you reach level 21 with him, he will unlock Sukunda which lowers Accuracy/Evasion for 1 foe by 1 rank for 3 turns.

If you hit Nuwa two times with it, she will most likely start missing her abilities. Every time you dodge, you consume her press turns.

Additionally, you can also use Ame-no-Uzume for the buffs and debuffs but do keep in mind that she is weak to Force and can help Nuwa extend her press turns.

If you are playing Canon of Vengeance then Yoko is a good choice for support as well as DPS. She comes with Tarunda which lower Nuwa’s ATK, as well as Agi which Nuwa is very weak against.

2) Best healers

Kaya-no-Hime SMT 5 Vengeance
  • Kaya-no-Hime
  • Feng Huang
  • Ame-no-Uzume
  • Yoko (Canon of Vengeance)

Kaya-no-hime comes with Harvest Dance which slightly recovers th HP of 1 ally and then raises their defense by 2 ranks for 3 turns. It’s amazing at minimizing the amount of damage that Nuwa does to your party.

Yoko comes with Dia as well, so make sure you have her in your active party if you are playing the Canon of Vengeance.

3) Best damage dealers

Feng Huang SMT 5 Vengeance
  • Feng Huang
  • Ativaras
  • Jack-o’-Lanterns
  • Nahobino
  • Yoko (Canon of Vengeance)

Feng Huang is going to melt through Nuwa’s HP bar. He comes with Agilao, a +4 affinity for Fire along with Force resistance. You can fuse him once you reach level 22, and even use him as a reliable healer, as Feng Huang comes with Media.

If your level is not high enough for Feng Huang, then you can settle for Ativaras and Jack-o’-Lantern as the main DPS for the fight. Yoko also does reliable fire damage, and if you are falling short of one damage dealer, you can always Essence Fuse an Agi into the Nahobino.

Once you take her to 50% HP, you will have successfully completed the encounter in Atlus‘ RPG.
