Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance Tehom boss guide

If you are going down the Law route in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance then you will face Tehom right after Tiamat as one of the final bosses. It is the personification of chaos itself and one of the harder and longer fights in the game.

Tehom can be manageable if you have the right party setup. The boss begins with a weakness to all elements. However, because of its innate skill, weaknesses that are struck on the previous turn will have their affinity resistance changed to drain.

So you will not be able to exploit the same weakness again until Tehom’s affinities reset. This makes the fight rather challenging if you do not have all of the elemental skills in your team.

So if you are struggling with the Tehom encounter, here is a guide that that can make things significantly more manageable.

How to beat Tehom in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

1) Have all attack types in your party

Team against Tehom

Tehom’s innate skill can make this fight significantly more difficult if you just have a couple of attack types in your party. If you exploit one weakness during a turn, Tehom will absorb the same element in the next turn while using the same element-type attack on you.

So if you used Agibarion on it during a turn, Tehom will absorb Agibarion on the next turn and hit your party with its own Agibarion (+6).

You will need to exploit this passive to the point where Tehom absorbs every single element. When that happens the boss will then gather Magatsuhi and hit its Inception of Chaos in the next turn which will revert its affinity resistances to normal.

2) Guard Tehom’s Inception of Chaos

Tehom attacks

As Tehom’s Magatsuhi Skill is an Almighty attack, you will not be able to block it. So when you see the boss charging up Magatsuhi just make all of your party members guard the attack. It will significantly minimize the damage and your team won’t get one-shot.

Having skills like Luster Candy in your party will help increase your defense and evasion to all of its attacks. So make sure you have enough buffs on your party members to deal with Inception of Chaos.

3) Keep an abundance of all element blockers

Once you exploit a weakness, Tehom will use the same attack type against you in the next round. if you used an Elec skill on the boss, not only will it gain drain on that element but also hit you back with a Ziobarion for the rest of the turn.

So if you have an Elec Dampener, you will be able to block the incoming attack. You can keep doing this for all the elements till Tehom uses Inception of Chaos and resets its resistances. Just make sure you are not exploiting more than one weakness in a turn, or Tehom will have access to more elemental damage types on its turn.

Rinse and repeat this for some rounds, and you will eventually be able to take Tehom down.

4) Have enough Chakra Drop, Chakra Pot, and Soma

With how big Tehom’s HP bar is, you might find yourself grinning out of MP. Make sure to have Chakra Pots, Chakra Drop, and Soma, to replenish your MP. As you will need to keep buffing, debuffing, and extending your press turns, you will need to keep your party’s MP topped up.

Best demons for beating Tehom in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

The best demons for the fight will primarily revolve around your set-up and the type of playstyle that you are going for. It will vary greatly from player to player, but as long as you make sure that you have all the attack types and the important buffs and debuffs, you should be fine.

Here are some of the demons that we found very useful in the fight:

  • Supports: Cleopatra, Na’amah, and Lilith
  • Healer: Agrat
  • Damage: Nahobino, Agrat, Eisheth, and Metatron.
Metatron SMT 5 Vengeance

Even if you are under-leveled for Metatron you will be able to fuse him for the fight after you beat Tiamat. This is because you will gain access to the Rank Violation Miracle which will let you fuse demons above your level.

Once you beat Tehom you will be able to move on to the final boss of the Vengeance storyline in Atlus‘ RPG.
