You will be able to enchant weapons, armor, and items in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered, which will allow you to make them significantly more powerful. Enchancted armaments are the best-in-slot when you reach the end game, and they are significantly more powerful than any unique items that you pick up.
However, to be able to enchant your gear, there are a few steps that you will have to follow. While Enchanting is one of the core branches of magic, being able to tap into it consistently needs a lot of work and know-how.
You will want to use Enchant your weapons as many times as you are able if you have selected it as one of your Major Skills. It also played well with the Intelligence attribute and will tie in extremely well to your character if you are going for a battlemage build.
So if you are looking to make the most of Enchanting in the RPG, then the guide below will help you out.
How to Enchant weapons and armor in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered
There are two ways by which you will be able to Enchant any item that you want in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered:
1) Using Enchanting Altars or Altars of Enchanting
To be able to use Enchanting Altars, you will first need access to them. You will unlock this station by first joining the Mage’s Guild and then continuing to complete the various recommendations from the guilds in different cities till you reach the level of “Apprentice”.
Once you do, you will then unlock the Enchanting Altars in the Guild Halls. The next steps will be to interact with the altar and then head to the “Gear” section, where you will need to select the item that you want to enchant. Next, head to the “Soul Gems” tab and select a Soul Gem that has been filled up.
The bigger the Soul Gem, the more will the weapon enchant charge be. So, once you have selected the required Soul Gem, make your way into the “Effects” tab and pick the enchantment that you want. You will then be able to customize the effect that it has in terms of AoE and Duration.
Finally, name the item, confirm the name, and hit Enchant to make it.
If you are enchanting a weapon, you will be able to add 2 enchantments to it. However, do keep in mind that by doing this, you will be making each individual enchantment significantly weaker.
Moreover, the enchantment that you put on a weapon will be one of the many spells or spell effects that you know. So, there is a fair bit of room to play around with when making the most of this system.

How to access the Altar of Enchanting
While Enchanting Altars is very easily accessible, you will not be able to get your hands on the Altar of Enchanting right away in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered. There are only two places where this station is available.
One is in the Arcane University. To gain access to the University, you will need to first join the Mage’s Guild and complete the Recommendation quest in the guilds of the following cities:
- Anvil
- Bravil
- Bruma
- Cheydinhal
- Chorrol
- Leyawiin
- Skingrad.
Once you have completed the quests, head to the Arcane University to the southeast of the Imperial City and talk to Raminus Polus. You will now advance to Apprentice and gain access to the Altars of Enchanting in the Chironasium.
You will find another Altar of Enchanting in a free “player home” called Frostcrag Spire, which is located at the very top of Gnoll Mountain. In your home, you will be able to find both an Altar of Enchanting as well as an Altar of Spell Crafting.
However, they will not be functional at the start. To unlock them, you will need to purchase the Megatallow Candle Box. You get this item from the Mystic Emporium in the Market District of the Imperial City. You can haggle with Aurelinwae to lower is prices.
2) Using Sigil Stones

The second way of enchanting your weapons, armors, and items is by using a Sigil Stone in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered. Sigil Stones are of two types, one is offensive and is only applied on weapons, while the other is defensive and is applied on armor.
To know the enchantment that a Sigil Stone has, you can always head to the inventory and inspect the Sigil that you have just obtained.
Moreover, Sigil Stones are categorized into tiers, which are as follows:
- Tier 1: Descendant
- Tier 2: Subjacent
- Tier 3: Latent
- Tier 4: Ascendant
- Tier 5: Transcendent
The higher the tier of the stone, the greater its effects. Now, to acquire these stones, you will need to close Oblivion Gates. The higher-level gates will grant you the highest-tier stone.
Keep in mind that the stone type you get will be random, but not its tier. So the Sigil Stone you get from closing a gate can be either an offensive or defensive one, and have one random enchantment.
Now to get the Sigil Stone that you want it’s best to “Save Scum”. Before claiming the Oblivion Gate rewards, save the game once, and see what type of Sigil you get. If you get the one that you like, keep it, or just restart from the last save, and you will get another randomized Sigil Stone. Keep doing this over and over again till you find what you are looking for.
In order to use Sigil Stones, you will need to head to your inventory, find the stone that you want, click on it, and then click on the Armor or Weapon that you want to enchant. You will now transfer the properties of the stone into the weapon.
Note: Unlike Enchanting Altars, Sigil Stones will only allow you to add one enchantment to your item.
